Fast or Natural?
« on: October 21, 2009, 11:14:59 AM »
I'm trying to fill out my arsenal, which is currently very weak in dry conditions. Currently, I'd say that my weakest ball is a 2nd Dimension with OOB polish finish. I'm trying to decide if I should go with the Fast or the Natural, as I don't have enough funding to pick up both at this time. I guess a Street Rod Pearl would also be available to me, so I should consider it as a realistic option as well.

I wish I had some more information about my throw to help out, but I'd say I have a medium rev rate with a med to med-fast ball speed. I am capable of throwing different lines, but prefer a down and in... typically with a skid/snap type reaction. I know the Fast provides more of this reaction than the Natural, but I'm not sure how either compare/compliment the 2nd Dimension.

Any recommendations or information would be helpful. I've been out of bowling for 8 years now, and the equipment is all pretty new to me.

Probably because the Furious is a long ways from a weak ball.

The gap would be quite large from the 2nd Dimension to the Natural.  The Natural is very very very smooth and the ones I've seen pick up a roll early.

I love my Fast and use it as a step down from my HyRoad but I haven't had the conditions to try it on truly dry conditions.

I was scared the hook would be too strong, and thus be too close to my 2nd Dimension...

As I stated, I'm up for other options... still haven't made a decision.

If you present other options, please explain why you think it would be a better fit for me.

Thanks!

So let me get this straight, the Furious can have a length and control drill put on it with 4000 abralon + polish to make it a weaker ball capable of fitting under the 2nd Dimension ?  In the OOB condition you''''re absolutely right about the Furious being too strong, but that doesn''''t mean that it''''s not possible.  And if the backend at his house really fly, a shined up Furious might be a better option in order to control the breakpoint.

I digress, I think the answer to your questions lies in what you really need this ball to do.  When you say "weaker ball" do you mean more length or less backend reaction ?  If you''''re looking for a ball with more length that you can cross more boards with, than the Fast is most likely your ball.  But if your looking for a ball to stay further right with, I think you would be better off with a shined up Furious because the backend reaction will be smoother.  I do agree that there would be too much difference between the Natural and 2nd Dimension.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input, it does help a lot.

I guess I'm really looking for a ball that doesn't read too early, as that seems less predictable with a broken down shot than a ball that will skid through. As for breakpoint, I typically prefer a ball to go long and a strong arc type reaction.

I'm sure that I could achieve what I'm looking for with both balls, but I'd rather get the more versatile ball. I don't want a big gap between my 2nd Dimension and the new ball, but I know I need something to fill the void to be successful on these types of conditions.

If you're going with a Fast, just be careful about how you drill it.  I've seen a few of them and the backend reaction was significantly more flippy than I thought it would be.  If it gets too flippy, you can take the surface down (1000, 500 abralon) under the polish to smooth out the backend a little bit.

The Fast would be a good step down from the 2nd but it's not a weak ball, it's more for mediums to lighter mediums. If your looking for a ball for drier conditions, drill the Natural.

My vote is for the Natural.  It is a great ball when the conditions are fried.  My Natural picks up a nice strong arc in the midlane without the over/under reaction I get from my reactive gear.  Several buddies have rolled their Fasts during practice sessions and it definitely is much stronger when it hits friction on the backends.  The Fast will be better suited to medium to medium-heavy oil in my opinion.

On the cheetah, Norm Duke shelled down from the 2nd Dimension to the Hyroad.  Also, a Reign, I would think, gets thru the front part of the lane easier than the 2nd Dimension, but has good pop at the end.

Since you are a dwon and in player, skid snaep and med-high speed, I would not go with the Natural.  If it were me, I would go with the Reign.
