Title: 2 fast to pair with 2 furious?
Post by: Justintoxicated on May 12, 2011, 03:33:37 AM
I'm just picking up bowling so not sure how serious I will get.  I currently have a 2 furious with the ring finger drilled to the left of the Pin/ Dot?

I think the ball is a bit hard to use in dry lane conditions, but maybe its just because I'm still learning?  Seems to hook too hard and miss the pocket (backdoor strikes still happen)

I was thinking of picking up a 2 fast for when the lanes have less oil?  Bad Idea?  The one I'm looking at says it is drilled  pin 3"to 4" out single rh drill m/f 4 3/8" r/f 4 3/8"  But I don't know enough to interpret these measurements.  Should I hold off until I have more experience?

Sure the 2fast would work, but i would do this first..

go to your proshop and find out your PAP and determine the exact measurements of the 2furious, then you and your driller should be able to match you up with a correct layout for the 2fast to help you out when the lanes start to transition

I'm not sure if my PAP would be consistent?  Wouldn't the PAP change depending on how the ball is drilled?  Sorry if these are dumb questions.

Your PAP is based on how you release the ball, not how the ball is drilled. Technically, your PAP can change depending on how you release the ball, but for the most part, it stays the same. Your PAP is used when the proshop does the layout of the ball. There are a lot of factors that goes into determining the right ball and layout for you.

With that said,

as far as a different ball, I would suggest a bigger drop down in bowling balls, to a Tropical Heat Pearl, or the new Tropical Breeze that is coming out in a few days. That way, the cover and core will both be a step down for you.  The 2Fast is the pearl vesion of the 2Furious, and may not be a big enough change for you, considering you are in the early stages of learning the game.

The PAP is measured by reading the oil lines on the ball right?  I'm still trying to figure out my own style so it seems to be inconsistent.  I have one way of throwing the ball where I cup my wrist on the throw and get a ton of hook on the release, but everyone says it looks funny when I throw the ball.  This generates a heavy hook and alot of spin.  My other way of throwing it is to keep my wrist straight, I only generate a slight hook when doing this but everyone says it looks like a more correct release.

Maybe I'm not ready for  a second ball yet then.  I was just tempted to pickup the 2Fast used because it was a good price and I thought it might help in some situations where I consistantly generate too much hook too early on with my 2 furious.  I do notice my score drops about 20-30 when the lanes are dry vs wet.

Last night we had some strange lane conditions and no one did great, heavy oil on the outside and dry and maybe even some what warped (the lane itself) up the middle...  I'm Embarrassed to say that I Bowled only a 117, (2 gutter balls in the 10th from staying too close to the edge, I was pissed!)  a 134 and a 142.   Out of the two teams the highest was a 175 for the entire 3 games...and this was from a huge guy using 2 fingers and tossing the ball down lane very hard. Everyone else enjoyed watching the ball do all sorts of weird stuff  like spin, start to hook and then just go straight,  to spin with never hooking up etc.  Only once or twice did I notice any oil lines on the ball, and sometimes only a few 1 inch spots.

Anyways the pro shop that drilled the 2 furious for me (lanes I mostly bowl at) did not measure my PAP before drilling.  Should I take the ball somewhere else?  Will they be able to tell me if it is correctly setup for me?

The 2Fast is going to be really similar to the 2Furious with the major difference being the 2Fast being a pearl.  That would give you more length and is more angular on the backend.

My suggestion would be the Tropical Heat or the Tropical Breeze (being released soon).  Both have weaker cores and pearl covers that will give you the length you need on drier lanes.  Also, the Roto Grip Rising Star (sister company to Storm) works well on medium to drier lanes with its hybrid cover.  It's not as strong as the 2Furious/2Fast, but is a little stronger than the Tropical Heat/Breeze.

My arsenal

Heavy Oil: Storm Virtual Gravity Nano: 4000 AB
Medium-Heavy Oil: Storm Anarchy: 1500 polished
Medium Oil: Roto Grip Nomad Dagger: 1500 polished

Medium-Light Oil: Roto Grip Rising Star: 1500 polished
