Looking at getting a Storm...
« on: June 14, 2005, 09:19:21 AM »
Only thrown one storm ball my whole life, and off-weight, used, beat up X-Factor Reloaded (which I thought was a pretty nice ball)

Anyhoo.  I'm pretty much starting over.  Right now I essentially have zero balls.

I'm probably going to pick one ball from Storm, drill it up with some span tweaks, and see how I like the ball.  If all goes well, I'll start rebuilding my arsenal from the ground up.

For a benchmark mid-price ball, what do you guys suggest?
Fired Up?
Screamin Banshee?
Other suggestions?

Just looking for a ball I can drill/adjust the surface to get through the heads, and make a nice move to the pocket on a fairly fresh house shot.  Nothing too fancy right now.

Do you know the concentration of oil?

medium-med/light- Hot Rod Hybrid
med- fired up
med-med/heavy- Atomic Charge all the way
Heavy- Vertigo would be the ideal ball, but seing as though you said mid-priced, u could get a flach flood, whough i never knew anyone who threw it.

The two balls you should probably take a look at IMO are the screamin banshee and the hot rod hybrid. Fired Up is real strong on the backend according to what I've heard. I'm not a big storm guy though so there might be something better....

If you just want something general go to www.stormbowling.com and use there ball selector.

Not knowing your style/conditions, IMO a good starting place would be:

Ace / XXX Factor
Atomic Charge / Eraser
Screamin' Banshee / Flash Point
Hot Rod Hybrid / Tropical Storm

I second the Flash Force, on the THS it seems to excel. If things get too oily for it you could always try an Ace.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I ended up settling on the Flash Force (cheap and a nice ball supposedly)

PAP is 5 1/8th over by 0 up.  Medium revs, low axis rotation, I can have an issue with getting the ball to roll too early sometimes, but I'm thinking a cover tweak can always solve that problem.  Other specs in profile I believe.

Any suggestions on layouts?
