Slot to fill...
« on: August 25, 2015, 01:18:12 PM »
Hey guys!  I recently joined a 5-man league in a somewhat unfamiliar house.  The league is a noticeable step up from the leagues I bowled in last season, where the averages are much higher.  There also seems to be a lot of teams with lots of bowlers throwing huge rev numbers and drying the lanes up much earlier than I am accustomed to.  I need something to throw later in the match when I get under/over with my current lineup.  I have been throwing the Unhinged on the fresh and it seems to carry considerably well compared to my other equipment, but around the 8th of the second game I have to move so far left that my line gets VERY tight.  I am a Storm/Roto Grip guy, and I have my sights set on the Ride...anyone have any experiences to confirm my suspicion that this is the ball to fill this slot?

Thanks in advance! ;D
Starting Lineup [Haywire; Unhinged; Hectic; Pitch Blue]
Also in the bag [iQ Tour Nano; Hyroad; Rocket]

I refuse to engage the unarmed in a battle of wits.

I'm not sure about the Ride for that situation. I love my Ride but mine doesn't actually do that great when the lanes are really broken down and flying. I think partially that is from the way I have it drilled to be a little earlier and smoother, along with me having more forward roll.

If you have more side rotation, I think it could be a good choice for you. What about going with something slightly stronger or a solid cover to try to avoid any carrydown issues or burn off some energy to not see much overreaction?

I'd probably look at the Loco Solid a little more than the Ride

When you say tight, do you mean your unhinged starts to struggle to recover? How far left are you getting?

If so, you might actually be better off switching to a stronger ball that can open up the left, rather than switching to a weaker ball to try to stay right.

I like my Sky Rocket so far when forced with over/under conditions and burnt up lanes as well. I do like Hanks idea of moving left with a stronger ball to get into an area that hasn't been played. I do this with my Haywire.

This is what I usually suggest to people, but some people just don't have the release to accomplish this.  Depending on where the starting area is for most people, there may be room to the right with something weak.  I have had limited success doing this and usually can't get more than 1 game out of it.

I don't hook it a lot at all.  I start (usually) on 13/14 throwing to 9/10. That is sort of my issue.  I don't create enough angle with my hand to get very far left of 20-22, somewhere around there.  I would rather stay straighter with something that will coast through the heads.  The lanes seem to break down from the center, which makes it tougher to get through the middle clean, then the back gets broken down.  I can pick up my speed to an extent in order to compensate, but I would rather just try to keep throwing the same pitch and ball down.  Also, I commonly bowl with at least 5 or 6 guys who all start left of where I do.  So moving left to a line that hasn't been played isn't really an option.  So would a Ride drilled on the weak side make it through the heads cleanly?  Or am I seriously on the wrong track here?  Hope the added info helps.
