Is it possible to get a new ball that's a lemon? I just purchased a new Triple X Factor. It was set up with the pin above the fingers about 4.5" from the PAP and in line with the cg. I tried the ball on a slick condition and then a light oil setup. The ball would not move over a couple of boards. A couple of friends of mine (both scratch bowlers) tried to use it and it would not hook for them either. About the only way I could use the ball was to come off the corner with a more or less straight shot.

So, I had it plugged and the pin was moved just below and just to the right of the fingers and out from the cg. Again the ball will not hook over a couple of boards. I have an Ebonite Savage Pearl that is much stronger on both conditions.

Has anyone else had a problem with this ball? All the reviews I have read say that this is a very strong ball. Storm shows it to be one of their biggest hookers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just because a ball is a supposed to be a "big hooker" does not mean it will hook a lot on any oil pattern. The XXX uses a stronger cover than the original X-Factor; so, it is, to hazard a guess, a ball for medium to medium-heavy oil patterns, whereas the original X was for medium-light to medium oil patterns.

I'd also have to say that if your Savage Pearl, a ball for light to medium-light oil, NOT for medium oil, is out hooking your XXX, AND the drillings are similar, then my "guess" is that you don't have enough oil to use the XXX. It may be burning itself up in the heads or midlane and this is manifetsing itself as a small hook.

All the above does not mean the XXX is a heavy oil ball; it isn't, AFAIK.

I am suprised charlest did not jump all over this....

djs.....you did not mention where the MB or "RAD" is located on the ball. That is very important in the reaction of that ball.

Well, my Reloaded was kind of the same way. It doesn't hook a whole lot at all. It's also a little hard to make too many excuses for a ball not hooking. Of course if it's too dry, it'll burn up, or too oily it'll skid, but then what kind of condition could you use it on? No ball is that touchy. I'm not trying to be antagonistic, but this guy might know what he's doing. And if the Savage is still stronger on the heavier oil, that could say something.

I agree. XXX is not the ball its advertised to be. Bad ball? No.
Hits hard, carries well, does hook. Does not like carry down.
My Inferno, with a less aggressive drilling will cover more boards
on any condition. Its possible some of us just don't match up.

A lemon? from the one I've seen used, I don't think so. One of the guys in my Monday league has one. He has ave ball speed (16-18mph), a fairly high rev rate, and generally plays inside with a fair amount of hook. Watched him shoot 300 with it Monday on a moderately heavy fresh shot with decent backends. I glanced at the layout and the pin is under the fingers with the RAD out towards the VAL probably at about the midpoint between the grip and the VAL. The ball had great movement and hit. As justjoe said, mayb you just don't match up well with the ball.

Hmm, that might be why my new original X sucks . . The sucker just rolls, doesn't do a thing. However, when I had the RAD in the track, it reacted great, it just rolled over the middle finger hole cause I drilled it stupid . . But now I have learned. I'll keep that in mind on my Triple X.

Thanks for all the input.

I have tried the ball on three different conditions. Dry, medium and fairly slick. Then I roughed up the surface. It does not move. What I have is a $230 spare ball. The only way I can get any action out of this ball is to come off the corner and that not what I got the ball for. I have a Savage Pearl, a blue Tornado and a solid Blade reactive. All of these balls are much stronger than the triple x.

Someone asked about the rad. Its below and to the right of the thumb hole.

The only person who has been able to move this ball is the proshop driller. He cranks the ball and has high speed. With his revs, the ball hooks a lot. But, that won't help me.

Any more suggestions would be welcomed.
