Anyone else have a problem with this???
« on: June 11, 2006, 05:38:37 AM »
Now - before I get flamed - if this has been mentioned before, I haven't seen it - and I just did a search, and nothing was found.. so.. That said, here goes:

Where does Storm get off naming the scent of their new ball "agent orange"??? I know the BALL is called the AGENT, and the scent is ORANGE (as in citrus) - but why is storm trying to get positive attention from the deadly defoliant used in Vietnam?  So many guys have horrible diseases (cancer, heart attacks, etc), and their kids have birth defects from being sprayed with Agent Orange - I find it absolutely sick, and horrendously disrespectful to these soldiers.

Besides - the ball smells like citrus - does anyone at Storm know exactly what the chemical Agent Orange smells like?

I an not English I an Irish! Because agent orange effected american soilders directly and still does to this day thats is why you find it offensive! the bombs dropped on hiroshima and nagasaki were a necessary evil at the time just like agent orange was in its day, both were done with the intentions of saving life in the long term. my point is you cant get on your high horse about how one is so offensive to you and find no offence in another bowling ball name just because it did not effect you directly!

To clear up any misinformation, I recall seeing the Agent the day it went up on Storm's website and the scent was never called Agent Orange.  Nice try guys!

As far as I remember, the scent was only "orange". Nevertheless, even the slight connection to the ball's name Agent seems to trigger many thoughts and emotions?

*******First of all........NO disrespect to Veitnam Vets!! **********

But.........

OK....ENOUGH ALREADY...........ENOUGH!

Do you think a company as big as Storm is in this industry would purposely offend people?! Are you crazy?!? Please wake up!

It was a mistake that was corrected immediately!

It's over.........now on to the next topic! How this got to 2 pages is beyond me!

Mumzie:

In regards to the comments by yourself and others about The Agent ball, and our unfortunate couling of the ball name with the ball's original color, orange, let me must say this:

There was no disrespect intended, and if anybody made the mistake, it was Bowlers Journal... the editors, proofers, you name it.

The slip-up was decidedly unintentional, and we feel awful about it. It was one of those things that sllipped through the editing process... all we saw was the name of the scent and the name of the ball, and in no way did we put two plus two together to associate it with Vietnam until after we were alerted to it via your posts and others.

Again, we feel awful about your situation, but BJ in no way intended to cause anyone any grief.

I'm pretty sure it was no coincidence, but for that matter who cares. This is a prime example of what is wrong with our society today everyone is so nitpicky about everything. Sure it was in bad judgement to name something of that nature, but it happens.  It is not the end of the world and that happened over 3 decades ago, lighten up people.  And yes there is a band called agent orange.  But I'm sure someone will take offense to this and try to sue storm for the mental anguish that the name of this bowling ball has caused them and try to get like 750,000 dollars out of them or something like that.  Just like the lady that spilled hot coffee in her lap. Im just ranting anyway lighten up people it is just a name.
