Reign squirty at many surfaces?
« on: October 29, 2009, 02:02:59 PM »
So I drilled myself up a Reign a week or two ago, 4.75x4.75 pin in middle finger. At box finish is was an over/under monster to say the least. So I figured I'd try it at 4000. Same. 2000, same. 1000, same. So I was at my breaking point with the ball last night, took it to 500 abralon, and polished it with the Step 2 storm polish. A wee bit better, but still, holy crap, sometimes it just goes right on by the break point. It's not a speed issue, and definitely not a targeting issue. So I'm wondering, is anyone else having these issues? I have 3 T-Road pearls, all the same coverstock, with none of the problems.

hmmm that doesnt make any sense.

both the t-road pearl AND the reign are r2s pearl

both 2.57 overall rg
with a .02 difference in diff rg.

and from the videos ive seen it looks just like my t-road pearl. not saying it cant happen just weird!

Are your T-Roads drilled the same way?? I drilled two Reigns so far, and by far the better of the two is the pin up and over. The drilling lets the ball do what the Reign is supposed to do, skid flip/hard arc.

I have mine drilled with a 5x4 kind of layout, with only about a 1.5" pin buffer, so it's drilled extremely skid/snap.  I sanded it with 500 abralon and the finished with 4000 abralon on a spinner, then polished it by hand with Snake Oil (not using the spinner to avoid a high gloss finish).  I don't have any trouble with this ball going by the break point unless I just throw it plain terrible and come out of it wrong, or miss a mile left into a puddle of oil.  I've been shooting great scores with it because it gives me so much miss room when throwing away from the headpin because of the amount of recovery I get on the backend even if I miss right, it still gets enough angle to carry if I get the ball into the oil too much.

No, they are not all drilled the same. One is 5.5x3.5 pin over, one is 5.5x3.5 pin under, both xhole on PAP, and the other is 5.5x5.5 pin over.
