Title: Ball close to the SureLock / Sure Lock
Post by: J_w73 on May 29, 2019, 02:42:15 PM
I just picked up a Storm Sure Lock from Buddies and it is probably one of the best balls I have ever thrown.  I usually don't do well with asymmetricals and usually even worse with strong dull covered asymms.  Not sure what it is, but I guess I just match up really well with the ball.  Most people I have talked to said the ball was too early, would burn up, or roll forward for me.  That is what balls like this usually do, but this ball gets down the lane and gets back to the pocket like no other ball I have.

So that being said, what is out there that might be close the the same reaction?  People have told me that the Crux Prime is supposed to be a hopped up/ better sure lock, but from what I have seen it doesn't look close to what the Surelock does.

Why not just try to find another sure lock?

Trying to avoid paying $200 if I don't have to.  I'm looking to buy a used one in good condition.  I should have grabbed a couple more from Buddies.. Only 16 and 14 lbs now.

Crux Prime is an over/under nightmare IMO.  The Physix deserves mention here, as it is capable of covering some boards.  Not quite as strong as the Sure Lock  but that would be my first choice out of the current line.

To me the ball is very unique, and seems to work really well for many different styles.

For me my Super Sonic matches up closer to the Sure Lock but at 3/4 strength.

I'm surprised you found a new Sure Lock, thought they were gone already. I picked up one on Amazon for $130 about 5 months ago. My friends that like the Sure Lock bought another and stashed it away.

Buddies got a final bunch of them or something I guess..  the ball is crazy special.. never have I seen a ball just go left when it revs up.. even when thrown end over end the ball still seems to move left off friction..

first time throwing my sure lock i couldn't get it to stay right of the pocket i kept moving left until i couldn't loft it anymore. that overseas power lock (GI-18) scares me. i would still buy one though.

That ball was absolute money for many people at my usual house, though especially so for fluffers with decent ball speed. It was practically impossible to throw through the break point and it always made an angular move towards the pocket and destroyed racks for the down-and-in crowd. Nothing made these mere mortals at my house look better than this ball did.
p.s. I should also note that the mere mortals at my house are also not the type to regularly clean their equipment, so I could see firsthand how the ball WILL die if not maintained properly (as would any ball).
p.p.s. Probably the closest ball I've seen is the OG Halo, but even that isn't quite the same look as the Sure Lock. The Halos I've seen are a bit earlier with a rounder shape downlane.

I'm going to throw another vote in for the PhysiX.  Not as strong of course, but shapes are really similar.

Thanks for that.  You have thrown every ball so I value your opinion.  I'll check out your video.  What do you think about the Halo in comparison?

How would the Phase II and Halo compare to the Sure Lock?

Halo is a little earlier and smoother, bit more forward off the end of the pattern.  Not terribly far off, but the PhysiX roll is closer, Halo hook amount is probably closer.

I looked at some videos and it does look strong with a strong move.  If it would be close to the storm Sure Lock it would be a pleasant surprise.  I threw only Motiv for a time and no ball was a big hook monster for me.  The Jackal Ghost was pukey for me and I had an old Raptor Talon that was kind of the same.  More of just a control piece  I'll take a closer look though.

On an added note about the Sure Lock, the ball is just growing on me more and more.  The ball is really spoiling me as it just makes getting back to the pocket and striking almost effortless.  And this is on a less than easy house shot.   It might be a bad thing though because the ball is so good it is making me a worse bowler, technically speaking.  I still find it usable on more conditions than just heavy / long oil.
