Title: Best way to polish Pitch Black

Going to get a second Pitch Black and want to polish it. Tried to polish my original and really didnt take to polishing to well. What is the best way to polish this urethane ball.

My guess is to take it up to 4000 in steps.

Agreed. Use every grit and don't skip any in between.
The best polish for urethanes is Lane#1's Secret Sauce.

Rubbing compound between the 4000 and the polish will definitely help. 

I've found it to be one of the best things to get a ball to a "lane shined" surface.

My personal experience with the older urethanes is not to worry about the polish.  It is so difficult to get it to polish no matter what methods you use.  The original is 1000 grit and I bet getting it to 4000 would be plenty for you.  If you really need something with more length than the Pitch Black at 4000, then that ball is probably not the best option.  Go to the original Natural or Natural Pearl.

I was thinking if it is possible to make this my spare ball.

Was debating about having a plastic or UT coverstock ball. My worries is that will this ball have too much hook when I try to hit pin 10? What is the disadvantage and what should I do to the ball so to able it to play as a spare?

If not what else should I look for?? Storm Mix??

Put the urethane ball in the Luster King at your bowling center.  If given 4-5 minutes they can come out very shiny.  After that you can apply nearly any other polish with great results.

Havent thrown the pitch black, but other urethanes go straight enough for me at 4000 with no other polishing.  If you want to use it for a pure spare ball you could certainly try some of the other things in this thread, however I think they would diminish the  usefulness of the ball as a dry lane strike ball option.
