Well not to beat a dead horse...but the ball is as great as people are hyping. It's not like the snap lock or others it's just going to easily fill a void in your arsenal....it's old school meets new school in a fun way.
The R2S cover is definitely a good partner to this core. This is the best pearl off the spot for me since the Virtual Energy, I said it. :P
Easy length and the biggest back end off the spot I can remember in recent memory.
I'm not going to dig into specifics...but I have used it on:
Newer synthetics (last night) and as of tonight the oldest beat up nasty wood Lanes, like wicked bad lanes.
The black for me is very reminiscent of the byte....almost covering the same area on the lane...but the CB cleaner and more angular.
Please don't take offense to this but there's a few balls I remember as game changers...and typically it's the introduction of new technology...except this time it's old tech....which still great...I know what I'm getting. I know what R2S will work on and what it won't. It's relaxing!
Is it the end all be all? Nah, but definitely something HONESTLY worth the hype.
Lane play:
Synthetics-I was about 2-3 boards inside of my new hyroad
Wood-code black is about 4-5 inside of my new hyroad
The hyroad was of course more even through out and the code black was definitely more skid flip, but it was nice to play almost the same area of the lanes.
Patterns: Testing on league THS
My specs: 15 mph, rev dominant- basically everything hooks....
Moral of the story: it's similar to the INTENTION of the Zero gravity...except more dynamic core and weaker cover...BUT it doesnt suck!!!!
I'm putting it out there....if the scandal solid and if the pearl didn't get that 890 hype... and wasn't equally as great but in other ways... this would be ball Ball of the Year very easily.
I am calling it now but this is the high end ball that will stay in your bag like the hyroad and the IQ tour. I am just compelled to tell u this! Hate me if you must but I am sore from a couple bad balls in a row that didn't dig from storm was contemplating going motiv. But WOW storm!
Ok end rant! Anyone else got theirs yet? Sorry about the fan boy post guys, I really am!

Ok, so how do you REALLY feel about it? :)
I could use a Storm style skid flip action, but I'm low rev... any low rev reports yet?
-
I'll have my buddy who is low rev but my span throw it tomorrow...I'll let guys know his thoughts.
-
I've punched up a ton of Utah stuff too and much of the new stuff and I feel HAS NOT deserved hype at all compared to this.
-
Bill,
What in recent Roto or Storm would you compare this to? Is it different enough from the Snaplock to justify both? I am kind of interested in the Daredevil... Thank you
Todd
-
Bill - for fun from what you said, what recent balls would you say just seemed to not make the cut?
-
Tloy- it may not justifying both, it is weaker for sure. You may find they nearly play the same line, but R2S is quite bit weaker than R3S BUT may only see the difference on heavier shots only.
Alonzo: past and future buys
I have just this spring and summer punched:
Batch 1 phaze -absolutely terrible
Fight- it was ok....my hyroad solid and other solids out preformed it despite the hype
Devour- will not carry a ten pin to save it's life. Probably got 6 games on it and I have to play extreme friction up the boards to get it to face up and carry, much like urethane.
Balls I have punched recently that I like:
Critical- out prefroms any high end ball I have, great hyrbid!!!
Hyroad (2015) works just as good as my 09 must have been a good pour/batch
900g dream-high average in my Thursday league, extremely underated ball. My bet is the marvel pearl cover on this with an assym core
Respect- got it based on the dream being good, and phaze being trash, basically a marvel pearl with more midlane and more backend.
Purchasing next:
Hyroad pearl
Dare devil
No rules pearl
I have a no rules with no holes as there is no oil in any of my centers any more. It's pearls all day til tournament time.

I like the style of your review. Thanks for the honesty and overall insights.

I'll have my buddy who is low rev but my span throw it tomorrow...I'll let guys know his thoughts.
Looking forward to hearing the low-rev feedback. Also, what layout did you put on the Code Black?
-
This is going to be skid snap for the low rev guys. R2S Pearl is very clean and responsive to dry down the lane anyways. With a beefed up engine and the ability to throw a ton of layouts on it, low rev guys should have no problem getting a skid snap reaction. If I were still drilling in a shop, I would layout out low rev guys with a 50 x 4" x 35 layout. With the pin high and close to the VAL, and strong MB position it's going to skid, rev up and get sideways for low rev players.
-
R2S was this on the fired up?
-
As it turns out, my partner just bought and I got to see it compared to his Snap Lock last night. He's not high rev, maybe low tweener... Maybe.
I want one.
Definitely skip flip, definitely later and more angular than the SL. He's loving it, and I really liked the shape. It really did do what I've heard, and he said the same thing... Basically, he could miss left or right and have confidence it had eyes for the pocket. I hate asyms, but may need to bump this ahead of the Warrior Elite and Force I was thinking of.
-
R2S was this on the fired up?
Fired Up was Original Reactor with the TwinV core. The earliest ball I can recall R2S being on was the T-Road Pearl.

I am dropping from 15 to 14. 65 year old with 285 revs an 14-15 at the pins. Recently moved to Florida and this house has much stronger backends with a severe drop off outside of 10. I couldn't garden any of my 15 lbs down the lanes far enough to be effective. I drilled up my wife's 14 lb RG Outcry and bowled well with it. Decided to look into a new ball when the Code Black came out. Decided to go with Dell Ballard's recommended drill of 4-1/2 x 5 x 3 for rev challenged Bowlers. Got to throw it in league the other night. Had to stay directly behind the ball like Scherbinsky and Barnes. Ball went down the lane, screamed back and carry was great. When I reverted to my normal turning the ball, it grabbed early and ran left. In my mind, I was looking at it almost as a frisby type of motion. With a small hand position change, I will be able to roll this on many different oil patterns. Looking forward to how this ball works in Vegas and other house parrerns.

I said it when it was released, I'll say it again. This ball looks siiiiiick, and we all know how I feel about Storm covers.
-
My buddy wasn't able to try it,
I threw the ball Thursday night on OLD synthetics, and the result was pretty good.
THS
Started with front 10 for 289, then 236 226. in he pocket all night, definitely blew an 800. I actually missed easy single pin spares. Ball did great and responded well off the spot with lateral moves all night.
750 on the China isn't the most remarkable thing but on this same surface I ateuggled to break 600 with stuff like the phaze, that I just didn't match up with.
I'm happy camper with this release

The Dream was indeed R2X.

Friggin' dope is what it was!
-
Thoughts on this being a ball for getting deep on the burn in a tournament? Looking to grab a 900G X and Code Black to be drilled accordingly for tournament play only. I feel like the two would complement quite well but I also questioned if being such an asymmetric ball if it would have recovery issues in the burn.
-
It's skid flip, not skid roll like a IQ.
I got bowl on some tougher stuff to give an honest answer.
-
Welp won one in a ball raffle at league tonight!! Going to get it drilled and see what it's all about.

Lol Lucky! You'll dig it, I was surprised to say the least

The Dream was indeed R2X.
The Dream uses the 74 Response pearl cover. The Respect pearl also uses the 74 Response pearl cover. If this is R2X, would the Respect pearl be close to the Marvel pearl. Core numbers are different 2.52 .047 vs. 2.48 .052 but maybe could be made closer with a slight surface adjustment?
Bill, how would you compare the Code Black to the 900G Dream?

The Respect Pearl is relatively similar to the Marvel Pearl, but the Dare Devil might be closer. If you watch the bowlersdeals videos, the Resprct Pearl and Marvel Pearl are almost the same shape.

My og dream has about 24 games on it and it's not as fresh as my code. I'll know in a few weeks how strong they are.
Initially on the same league shots and lane surfaces I had to REALLY SOMETIMES force the dream at fresh OOB. Force because it was pretty strong...
I don't have the same problem with the code.
So my speculation is this..
Code black R2S
Dream R2X
Respect R2X
I got the code a touch weaker.

Thanks for the replies guys.
-
How do you think this ball stacks up to the IQ 30? I get a good skid flip reaction out of it without it jerking sideways.
-
The code black for me is pretty side ways!
-
The code black for me is pretty side ways!
First 3 games with it last night on a shorter/medium oil pattern on wood lanes and this thing was very strong for it. I left two 4-9 splits from driving high and hard. Should be a fun ball to try on synthetics Thursday.

Is the Code black controllable?
