Title: Cracks in Storm balls
Post by: chuckysrevenge on September 28, 2012, 10:16:14 PM
Anyone had any issues wit their Storm equipment in the last few years? I developed a crack around the bottom of the thumb hole on my Reign just noticed it Wed. night during league. Didn't seem to affect it to much but wonder if anyone else has been seeing alot of cracks recently.

everything cracks over time unless you take great care of it. I throw primarily storm and only one ball has cracked on me and that was from not using it at all for a long period of time

Did your drill put a little bevel on the thumb before slugging it? That can definitely lead to cracking around the thumb. Also depends on if you loft the ball onto the lanes. I agree with THINK here that all balls have a possibility to do it and especially if they are subject to temperature changes.

The only cracking issue I had with storm since going to them in 2008 was with a Hy-road.  It happened during drill, and they just got another off the shelf and dealt with Storm directly.  I did nothing but wait a little longer.

I had a Nano crack across the bridge. The bridge was beveled. Nd drilled to specs. The ball was under warranty although I purchased it over the Internet. After  inv unable to get a response from Storm, I plugged it and sold it. Have not been a Storm fan since.

Did you put 7/8" pitch between the bridge or drill outside of an inch of the pin? Mike Luongo told me that that is storms spec along with most ball manufacturers.

I've had numerous Storm balls without any cracking issues.  The Reign is an older ball so I'm assuming you have used it a bit.  Your pro shop can drill out the crack and plug and you should be good to go.
