Title: Deoiling the nano cover
Post by: Gunso on March 10, 2018, 10:26:02 AM
Has anybody had any experience of deoiling the Nano cover? I have the Innovative home bowling ball oven and the nano cover does not seem to bleed any oil at all. The code red and Daredevil trick were soaking wet but the marvel s does not seem to bleed any and I remember the same issue with my virtual gravity nano a couple years back.

If there's oil in there, should be coming out.  You sure you don't just need to freshen up the cover?

It has never been deoiled in its lifetime so pretty sure there should be oil in there.

A lot will depend on just how well you cleaned it, If you cleaned after every set etc. etc. There might not be much if any to come out.

Now I know many say this is a unnecessary step, But did you sand it before putting it in?

Plus how long did you leave it in? It just may need a longer time cooking.

What temperature has the oven been set to and how long have you let it sit in the oven?
(FYI the grit level of the ball's surface does not matter; if it went in, the heat should bring it out.)

And, as to the other poster's concern about the surface, ever ball should have its cover refreshed regularly, roughly every 10 - 25 games depending on circumstances. The surface should be redone from scratch every 45-50 games or so. This is as vital to proper performance as is oil removal on a per use basis.

well aware of cover maintainance and other things. Not sure what temperature it is set on. it's in the middle of the green area and it works good on other balls and the cover gets hot enough. I had it in for about 15 mins at first and then gave it another 20 min.

the ball is not mine and the owner never cleans his stuff so I would have thought a lot should come out and this has only happened on my nano cover balls.

I use the NuBall oven and it has the temperature settings in 5 degree increments; so I have no idea what yours is set to. I leave mine in the oven for at least one hour at 140 degrees.

I can't suggest you set yours to  a higher temp because I don't know what it's set to now. That is a problem with the Innovative. You should talk to the Innovative people so you know what the temperature setting it. It is kind of important.

Huh.  Weird, maybe it soaks in further?  I've never seen anything different out of the Nano cover, oil comes out in the Detox just like it does with everything else.

I'd probably just throw it in there longer if it were mine and I wasn't happy about the reaction. Was just trying out a friends ball to see how much would come out since he never cleans his stuff. he wipes them down but never cleans them and nothing came out and that reminded me that the only other ball to have no oil come out was my only nano cover. Might throw that virtual gravity nano in there for some time and experiment

No detox in the country so won't be able to test if it comes out in that.

Oddly enough, I too have tried a Virtual Gravity Nano that should have been soaked with oil. I know the user doesn't clean it after using and has used it for years.

Baked it in the NuBall at 135 for an hour and it came out dry. I hit it with a 500 beforehand.

I am finding, for me, that I am only getting oil out of newer and polished balls.  I've had the nuball for 2 months and done over 10 balls for friends. Balls that I know are older and not cleaned that I thought would give me enough oil to fry chicken with, have come out dry. Same thing for newer solid covers, I have yet to get one to bleed oil.. Yet my newer stuff ie a Code Black, that I clean after every set, came out with oil on the surface. Baked it twice and it still had oil.

my daredevil trick who is a solid had a lot of oil come out of it.

the ones who have far the most oil coming out of them have been the 10 and 12 pound entry level tropicals i have bought for the kids who never wipe and never clean

De-oiling, baking, kitty litter, you name it, I have tried it. For me , they worked but just for a very short while.  After a while, no matter what system I used, I discovered that there comes a time when resin balls make better doorstops than they do rolling down a lane.
