old storm ball replacements
« on: March 18, 2008, 08:11:03 AM »
Ok, i've got a tripe xtreme, tour power, and an eraser particle pearl that i have absolutely loved to death! labels and serial numbers are gone and the balls are now the size of golf balls! i want some updated equipment but i want the reactions as close as possible. for the xtreme I was thinking an attitude shift but i'm pretty lost regarding what to do with the other two. i've had so much success with all 3 that i'd love to find them all nib but i know that's doubtful. Any suggestions are welcome! thanks

Storm Staffer and PBA Member Jeff Carter has a nice tour power for sale on his site. He sales these balls for a great charity too.

For the Xtreme being close to the attitude shift, you may find you will need a surface change for the attitude shift.  I still have my Xtreme and just got an attitude shift and it is outhooking my xtreme by at least 8 boards with similar layouts and both left at oob finish.

For those of you who will say that comparing a new ball to one that has "x" number of games on it isn't fair, I take good care of my equipment and I haven't seen a decrease in reaction for my xtreme.

All of that being said, I love my attitude shift because i am in a part of the lane a lot earlier than I am accustomed to, and I am able to play inside of most everyone else.

For your Eraser pearl/particle replacement, the Shift right now would probably be your closest bet.  Like Mighty Buffalo says, at this point, the Attitude Shift is probably your closest bet to replace your Triple Xtreme.  If you can't find a Tour power NIB, it looks like the Jolt Particle is closest, followed by Thunder struck solid & T-Road Solid but would be stronger.  JMOs.

Wow I didn't realize that the attitude would outhook the xtreme. I'm ok with more hook as long as the reaction characteristics are similar ie you can see my xtreme rev in the midlane but is continuous. The shift seems like a great ball in it's own right but it's roll and ball motion (from what i've seen) don't seem to be all that similar to the eraer pp. Also i'm very comfortable with changing surfaces and plan on changing the balls surfaces multiple times :-) Thanks for the replies so far

I agree with replacing the Triple Xtreme with Attitude and I also agree it will hook much more.  Keep in mind that the Attitude cover is much stronger and the core dynamics are designed for a later, stronger move.

I strongly disagree on the EPP replacement with the Shift.  Other than the fact that they are both pearl particle they have nothing else in common.  The Asymetric Shift is a ton stronger than the EPP with a more aggressive move at the breakpoint.  There is no current lineup ball that compares - but the recently discontinued Ragin' Banshee is very close and you should be able to find one around.

I would suggest s Special Agent as the Tour Power replacement but it is much the same conversation with the Triple Xtreme and the Attitude - the R2S cover is going to hook more than the solid Accutread no matter what you do.

Now we're splitting hairs.  Notice I said "closest".  You can say there are no replacements for ALL of the balls he mentioned if you want to get technical.

ANd really, if you want to split hairs:  The Special Agent is WAY stronger than the Tour Power.  Other than the Attitude Shift, you couldn't have picked a stronger ball in the current line-up & further from the TP.  It's not even "close" to the TP.  Look at the specs for the Tour power.  It's a low flaring ball compared to the Special Agent.  There are other balls in the current line-up that come a h3ll of a lot closer than the Special.

If you go Storm's site you can ask them.

http://stormbowling.com/company/contact.asp

It's the link to the site to ask them. I just got ahold of a used Tour Power and had no clue what to expect. I emailed them and was contacted within a day.

Yes, that's an idea. Storm's website also lists their "Current" line-up, such as the Shift, & their "Discontinued" balls.  I only assumed FHOF wanted "current" replacements that were "closest".  Mine were only "suggestions" & my opinion.

Special Agent reminds me exactly like the Eraser Particle Pearl. I think it is more conistant reaction wise then that ball. First time I saw that ball thrown I thought it reminded me of my Eraser PP. Very smooth and strong.

Storm's MatchMaker on their website is kinda crappy.  It suggested the Attitude Shift for me on oily, medium, AND dry lanes.

It's a guidline as I understood it when I tried it. Some people won't even know their rev rate & axis rotation, lol. But the one thing it doesn't tell you is what ball in the current line-up replaces a discontinued ball from 2 yrs or more ago, which was what the topic post was about.
