Fast Pitch Review
« on: October 07, 2020, 11:11:47 AM »
Fast Pitch:
The Fast Pitch is a throw back to old urethane providing plenty of control from front to back. The Fast Pitch features the Tour Block Core combined with the Control XL coverstock.
The Fast Pitch fits perfectly between the Pitch Black and Pitch Purple as it is not as early as the black yet not as long as the purple.
This will be a great option to go to when bowling on those short to medium patterns and control is of the essence.

The Fast Pitch is the newest ball in the thunder line and Storm's newest Urethane Ball.  The fast pitch fits perfectly between the Pitch Black and Pitch Purple in terms of overall strength and continuation.  The fast pitch to me is a great "benchmark" urethane ball and it isn't as early rolling as the Pitch Black and not as angular as the Pitch Purple.  I prefer to use this ball on short oil and sport patterns as it really controls the backend.  As lane surfaces become older and oil becomes less, it is pertinent to have bowling balls that don't read the front of the lane as strong but has stronger midlane roll.  This Fast Pitch really accomplishes that task and gives a lot of the right ball motions that are really needed for a urethane ball.  If you have a Pitch Black that is too strong or a Pitch Purple that you can't use as much as you want, then this Fast Pitch is the ball for you!

The Fast Pitch features the Control XL solid cover wrapped around the tour block core. This cover resembles much of the same characteristics as the control solid cover found on the Pitch Black, but does so from a zone farther down the lane. This is accomplished by a series of additives in the cover that allow it to absorb oil at a very slow rate. Not nearly as fast as the Fever Pitch and Pitch Purple, but quicker than something like the Purple Hammer. This combined with a no filler core provides a shape and continuation matched by nothing on the current market. I was and still am a huge Fever Pitch fan. I’m currently on my 6th one, with two more stashed for later on. The one thing the Fever Pitch struggles with, is slowing down enough to use the first game of a block on a short pattern. The Fast Pitch utilizes the same core with a cover that provides more friction to use before I get into my Fever Pitches. When compared to the Pitch Black, the Fast Pitch is roughly as strong left to right but starts to precess 3 to 4 feet later than the Pitch Black. The Fast Pitch will be a great option for when you still need a urethane esq shape, but the Pitch Black is slowing down too fast to properly travel through the pins. Be sure to stop into your local Storm VIP pro shop and pre-order your very own Fast Pitch for the October 9th release!

Fast Pitch
Layout - 55 x 4.75 x 25
The Fast Pitch is the perfect compliment between the Pitch Black and Pitch Purple!  Its more overall hook than the Pitch Black and cleaner through the front.  The Pitch Purple was a bit too shiny out of the box for me, I needed to take the shine off of it to get it to behave more like Urethane.  The Fast Pitch is going to bridge that gap between the 2!  It is a perfect mixture of both!  Slower ball speed players and tournament players definitely need to put this one in your bag!

Cover: Controll XL Solid Urethane

Core:  Tour Block

Finish: 1000

RG: 2.61

Differential: 0.030

ME:

Right-Handed Tweener

Speed: 12-13 mph

Rev Rate: 315

PAP: 4 7/8 Right 3/8 Up

Ball Layout: Pin Up and Right of Ring 4 1/4 Pin to Pap 1 1/2 Pin Buffer

The New Fast Pitch from Storm creates another unique option in the Thunder Line. The progression of performance urethane continues. Where the previous two blends added more hook and shape in the Fever Pitch and Pitch Purple the Fast Pitch gets back to a true urethane reaction.

The biggest challenge to using urethane is following your own transition. The Pitch Black is great and reading the front of the lane and slowing the back-end down. Once the oil begins to move down-lane it becomes difficult to get the ball through the early hook-spot and then to shape at the pocket in the carry-down. This is where the Fast Pitch comes in. The cover is a little cleaner and gives you a little more down-lane shape without sacrificing the urethane motion that you need on some patterns.

The Fast Pitch has been very useful for me in my league because the house I bowl in has alot of friction in the middle front of the lane. Once you get pushed left it becomes a struggle to get balls through the front and get them to retain energy enough to continue through the pins. The longer you can play right, the easier it is to create angle and the better your carry. The problem is a lot of nights the big move with reactive can happen right out of practice. It's easy to run out of room moving left if you have to start at 4th arrow straight out of practice.  Even my Pitch Black can be a bit much early to where I am struggling to generate enough ball speed to get it through the front. The Fast Pitch moves that early hook zone a few feet further down-lane. So that if I start with the Pitch Black it gives me the option to stay in that part of the lane when the transition happens, and on nights when the fronts are too dry I can go to it right away. Having even one game before you are forced into the deeper zones of the lane is a lifesaver.

Love them or hate them, urethane balls are a big part of competitive bowling right now. I personally love throwing urethane and am able to throw them a lot in tournament competition. I have multiple Pitch Blacks in tournament my bags and let me tell you the Fast Pitch fills a huge gap in the urethane lineup for me. For me there was a huge gap between the super early and slow Pitch Black and the much cleaner and faster Pitch Purple. The Fast Pitch fills that gap perfectly. It rolls more like traditional urethane (unlike the Pitch Purple, which I think rolls more like resin) but is noticeably cleaner than the Pitch Black which gives it more shape down lane.
I can definitely see myself drilling a few more of these to round out my urethane bag for tournaments.

Review:
Storm has introduced a new Urethane Ball to the ever growing urethane ball market. As I go to tournaments and leagues I see more and more urethane in the bowler’s hands. I also see more Urethane on Pro Shop Walls. My first look at the new Fast Pitch was at our Storm / Roto ball Demo.
The Fast Pitch was much cleaner through the front than the purple and had a nicer but less strong move at the break point than the Purple. I feel it hit harder than the Pitch Black. The total hook and motion puts it squarely between the Black and Purple. The ball was very well received and sold well at our Demo. When drilling the Fast Pitch I noticed the shell was thicker than normal which always seems to help pin carry. The Fast Pitch picks up oil, but it seems to sit on the shell. Better have a shammy with you! The Fast Pitch will be a great addition in an arsenal to even out dry conditions or when the Pitch Black is a bit too slow on the back end.
I have not tested mine much yet due to where I bowl but I plan to take it to some lanes with less volume and see what it is capable of. I did notice this ball seems to be low flaring, predictable with a nice move you can trust.

Summary:
The Fast Pitch may be the Urethane Most People are looking for.
The hit is very good for s non-reactive ball.
The Fast Pitch works for many bowling styles.

Fast Pitch by Storm Bowling
Kassy Shumate

As someone who doesn’t look to urethane very often I believe this would be my exception. I have a Pitch Black which doesn’t get a ton of use. I like the Fever Pitch out of the box but then it made its way out of my tournament bag fairly quickly. I never felt like I could do much with the Pitch Black whereas the Fast Pitch gives me the same type of control with more backend punch. I would say it has same amount of back end as the Fever but not as over under when the lane transitions. This ball has found a spot in my bag and it already has bailed me out on a couple of occasions in tournaments. If you had to make a choice between this and the Pitch Black or Purple the Fast Pitch has my vote.

Storm’s newest urethane features an all new core and cover combination. The Fast Pitch features the Tour Block core, which resembles the trusted Hy-Road core and has an RG of 2.61 and has a diff of 0.030 in 15 lbs. It also features the new Controll XL solid urethane cover which fits in-between the Controll Solid in the Pitch Black and the Rev-Controll Solid in the Pitch Purple. I drilled mine 5 x 5 x 3 and after throwing mine for awhile I noticed that it gave me the same reaction as a Pitch Black with a just overall strong motion. I would actually compare the Fast Pitch more to a Roto Grip Hot Cell on strength but this ball will absolute help all urethane loving tournament bowlers you stride for the blended shape urethane gives and short pattern dominance.

The Storm Fast Pitch is an awesomely smooth urethane ball perfect for those who want to eliminate those nasty splits when your reactive ball hooks sharply off the dry. I drilled it with my favorite layout 5x5x2 with out of the box factory finish. It’s very clean through the whole lane. It’s the typical urethane that starts up early and arcs the whole lane. It’s so controllable and good even when there is decent oil to start. You’ll be able to play straighter like the old days and but if you want to move in and swing a little you can. You’ll just have to slow your speed a little. It hits super hard too. It doesn’t lose energy as it drives through the pins. Felt like the 90’s urethane era when I was a kids. This ball will defiantly be in my bag for any pattern, whether its house or sport patterns. My PAP is 5-1/8 and 1/8 up. Usually around 15-16mph, I’d probably be classified between and tweener and cranker.
