The Dark Thunder is actually closer to a remake of the Thunder Road (core-wise; it's inverted from the Black Thunder) and it wears Monsoon as a coverstock instead of Curleyon or however you spell/say it.

The closest ball you can still find, core/cover-wise, to the original Black Thunder is the Hot Rod, which still has Curleyon as a cover. Of the Thunder line, the closest to the Black Thunder is probably the Thunderstruck Solid, but the cover is a different formulation.

I bought a Thunderstruck solid to replace my Black Thunder.  Same pin, top weight and drilling.  The overall roll is the same shape, but a little stronger.

But the increase in strength could be that I am comparing to a 10 year old black thunder with at least a 1,000 games on it.

When out at Nationals I spoke with the guys in the storm booth and straight from their mouths was that the Solid ThunderStruck is the closeist thing to the orignal black thunder.  Have yet to drill one becasue I still have an original Balck thunder.
