A Tropical Storm is nowhere near a dry lane ball, if you have any hand at all, it is a medium oil ball.
For the gravity shift to work on mediums, you need either alot of speed, or change the surface to 4000 Abralon and put a dose of Xtra Shine or Reacta Shine which ever grit you like better

My current arsenal:

Secret Agent (500-1000) Heavy
Attitude Shift (1000) Med-Heavy
Shift (Box) Medium
Sure Fire (Box) Med-Light
Tropical (Box w/ExtraShine) Light

Hoping to get my hands on a Gravity Shift and Dimension for the fall

gravity shift works great for me on medium lanes one of my best balls and the dimension out hooks the special agent by 5 boards easy

If you're only going to have 5 balls I would have a mix of pearls and solids as well as symmetric with asymmetric cores to give you different breakpoint shapes. Depending on what lane conditions you're going to face, I don't think it's necessary to have to shell down to anything like a tropical or plastic to face 'desert' conditions. Look at J. Carter, he doesn't carry anything weaker than a JOLT pearl in his arsenal. You're better off sticking to higher performance stuff and moving on the lane and changing hand position. That's just my opinion.

I'd line this up:
Dimension
Attitude Shift (or some other solid with a MB)
Gravity Shift
Rapid Fire Pearl
Street Rod Pearl

Basically, I would try to have at least a couple solids as well as a couple asymmetric options. I think something like this would give you substantially different looks as far as breakpoint shapes are concerned.  Or, if you match up well with a couple certain cores, get the solid and pearl version of each and then add one ball that gives you a different needed look.

I have both the gravity and the rapid prl.  the gravity is the most versitle ball I have ever owned. I regulary use it on both heavy and medium.

I just recently got the rapid prl and I have thrown it on what I would call "heavy" "medium" and "light" side by side by side to see how it would handle.  It skated on the heavy and never recovered, but on the medium and desert it jumped hard as soon as it touched any dry boards.  It is one of the most angular balls I have seen.  I am probably going to play with the cover stock tomorrow.

The rapid prl is drilled pin up and I am 17.5-18.5 with medium revs.

I also totally agree with SVstar34 about the tropical.  My buddy throws one and he has decent hand and it moves more than I ever thought.

with your speed I would...

Flood- Dimension
Heavy- Attitude shift
medium- Gravity shift (OOB or light polish after thrown)
Light-  Street Rod Prl
Desert- Tripical (light polish)

Flood....Dimension (OOB or scuffed)
Heavy....T-Road Solid
Medium...T-Road Pearl
Light....Street Rod Pearl
Desert...Ice

That's what I call a budget saver after you invest in one premium ball.
