Title: Help Choosing Next Ball
Post by: Big Ern on February 26, 2011, 07:25:42 AM
I'm new to the forums here & just wanted to post so I could get some help & different opinions.  I got the Dimension when it came out a couple years ago.  I really like the way it rolls because it picks up the roll early & still has plenty of energy left to crush pins.  The question I have is this.. I'm looking for a ball that is similar to the Dimension as far as core but stronger overall.  I've heard the Prodigy was supposed to be somewhat like this but I wasn't sure.  Is this true?  What about the Marvel?  I've read some different reviews & I'm not sure what to think.  Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.     Thanks!

I have just recently drilled a marvel.  it is a aggressive ball with asmooth continues finish,  you might also want to look at the invasion just as strong a little more angular on the back end.  I also just drilled an anarchy this is the most powerful pearl ball i have ever thrown.  hope any of this helps.  this site is great for research, it's where i did mine but the final decision is all yours.

A lot of it depends on what weight you use. 16lb, the Marvel and Dimension are very similar, with the Marvel being a little more controllable off the spot, making it a little better for fresher back ends.

15lbs, you will see the Marvel pick up a few feet earlier, and be more ball overall.

The rg factor of the cores in 15lbs gives you a bigger separation between the Marvel and the Dimension then in 16lbs.

This is comparing both balls at the same surface, and same drilling.

Ok thanks for the replies.  So I was bidding on a Prodigy on ebay & ended up winning.  I havent gotten the ball yet but was wondering what would be the strongest layout for the ball.  I'm a lefty with not alot of hand but decent speed.  It's a 15 pound Prodigy.  I have my Dimension layed out with the pin under my ring finger.  Besides that I don't know much else about the layout.  I want the Prodigy to pick up its roll early but still make
a nice move to the pocket on the back ends.. Once again any help  is appreciated.

You really need to talk to your local certified pro shop operator about layouts. They are more aware of the oil being used, surface bowled on, and your personal stats (PAP, rev rate, axis of rotation, tilt, etc). Sometimes a weaker layout can mean more ball motion and vice versa, so the pro shop guys who know your game and the environment will be best to help you.

i agree with Tommy. have your pro shop watch you bowl a game then make a choice on layout. The Prodigy is an amazing ball. One of the best relaeses by Storm. But, it can be very agressive depending on the drill. My buddy has one drilled pin next to ring finger with the bias kicked out. on our house he cant use it for more than 1 game. it wont stay on the lanes. we bowl on a light house shot with original wood lanes.

you pro shop will get you in the right direction.
