Title: Help with arsenal
Post by: Cubbyjans on October 01, 2018, 06:41:58 PM
I am 16 years old and two handed bowler. My arsenal consists of a storm IQ tour, storm hyroad pearl, storm Pitch Black, and a Columbia 300 spare ball. I bowl high school, and bowl on some drier conditions, I need a ball that is not as aggressive as the storm hyroad pearl, but more aggressive than the Pitch Black. Any suggestions will help. I would like something that still snaps back the the hyroad, but anything will help.

Thanks a lot.

In general aren't the Match Up balls between the HRP and the Pitch Black?  Probably the Tropical Storms as well.

Well I bowl two handed and with the hyroad pearl my line is from 3rd arrow to about 2nd board when it breaks back.It will start to go through the nose and I can adjust, but I don't want to adjust a lot. The hyroad pearl is very aggressive in the back end and I would like a ball just like that, but where I can get the same line but when oil is dried up. The pitch black won’t come back from the middle of the lane like I want it to. I also bowl on a THS.

There are very few balls in the burn niche that aren't urethane. You will not be let down with a BTU Pearl. Mild cover and isn't a 3pc ball flaring nicely. I had one in 16lbs and will most likely be picking one up in 15lb in time. My only non-storm ball.

Urethane - especially ones like the Pitch Black - are not meant for the burn. They are also not meant to play the same angles as balls like the Hyroad Pearl. You need to adjust your angles. As well, you shouldn't be afraid to adjust with your Hyroad Pearl either. Adjustments are a huge part of this game. Don't get trapped up in playing the lanes how you like to play them when that is not the best way to play them.

If you want to stay in the Storm line, there's not much weaker than a Hyroad Pearl. You could try a Tropical Storm, but it's a decent jump down. They used to have a good ball down with the Ride line, but they failed to replace them. The Match Ups are not really going to be a good ball down choice. If you're willing to try something other than Storm, Brunswick has some balls that might work. Some other companies as well.

As a two hander myself I recommend the following: Blue Hammer urethane, Widow spare (or a plastic ball with a weight block), Rhino or a cyclone for the dry.

Blue Hammer got discontinued which was kind of dumb of Hammer imo but shrug.  Got one for me and the wife at least.
