Hpt Rod vs. Hot Wire
« on: July 01, 2003, 09:47:45 PM »
Hey, can anyone lend an idea as to what the difference between these two balls is? Besides the obvious coverstaock difference, how different do they react and which would be a better choice for dryer lanes? Thancks

Cover, yes but its......different AND different finishes(Curelyon and AccuTread, polished and solid...but we know that ) That being said...for drier conditions OF THESE TWO it would be the Hot Rod, but Storm isn't promoting it as a drier condition ball.......

I wish the Hot Wire had the Curelyon cover (stupid name!), then I'd have a new version of the old Bolt Pro that I love so much.

As it is, I'd bet the Hot Wire turns out to be the solid Eraser that never was, the new Messenger Titanium solid; in other words, a great TRUE medium oil ball for the ages.

charlest, don't forget the Erase-it which was a great ball, solid accu-tread!  Like many balls, it got buried...I think it had a spring release, then 3-4 balls, i.e. new Traumas, came out and buried it.  Plus some people did not like the colors.  The Hot Wire will be basically the same ball, but without the power ball, so you might lose a touch of power.  Plus according to comments so far, the color on the Hot Wire is iffy, which might hurt it!

Stormlefty,

I never liked the idea of the Erase-it: the cover was too strong (too dull), Rg was a hair too low and the RG diff was a hair too high. All in all, it was more for medium-heavy to almost heavy oil. Color was fine.

The cover of the Hot Wire is 1000 grit, the RG is higher (2.56 vs 2.53; no, not by much, but it is higher), the Rg Differential is less, .033 vs .050; I'd prefer around .040, but, all in all, its specs indicate a really nice mid-level ball. I have enough hand to make this ball react well on a lot of conditions, IF it turns out to reflect its specs.

I will wait and see what the early reports bring.

This Hot wire is AGGRESSIVE!!  maybe much more aggressive than storm meant it to be.  I got confirmation from Storm that it has the exact same cover as the Duece.  With the Hot Rod core it should be a little earlier and more even but I saw someone with one of these and my god did this thing hook.  Even more than the original solid Super Power that the guy was using.
