Title: Hy-Road Pearl Replacement
Post by: AlonzoHarris on January 14, 2017, 07:32:59 PM
What would be considered across any brand to be a good Hy-Road Pearl replacement?

Let me explain why.
1. I want to try another ball as I know I could order another one.
2. I would prefer it to be a touch stronger vs weaker.
3. Doesn't have to be pearl if there is a Hybrid or Solid that is similar.

Some I think might work?
Hy-Wire
Rocket-Ship
Eternal Cell
Respect
Dare Devil
GB2 Phenom Pearl
Timeless
Paranoia

I'd look at the HyRoad and Sky Rocket first if you wanted something similar but a touch stronger.

The Dare Devil looks great but I think a clear step above

Thanks, I am looking to keep it under the Primal Fear so I should rule the Dare Devil out based on another thread discussion we've had.

I think I approached this incorrectly. Let's re-phrase this. What is something to fill the gap that my Hy-Road pearl would leave based on my lineup in my signature?

Below the Primal Fear and above a Ride. The two dirty bombs are pearl and solid respectfully drilled pin down for tournament use but I would still prefer to not overlap them. Medium oil ball preferred.

I have no familiarity whatsoever with the dirty bombs, but there's a big gap for something to go between the Primal Fear and Ride. Danger Zone, Fanatic, Ridiculous Pearl, Desert Ops, Special Ops, Infrared, X, Chemical X, Sideswipe, Sideswipe Solid, Rebel, Viral Solid, Heat, the upcoming Kinetic Emerald, Wreck-Em, !Q Tour, Fight, Street Fight, Venom Shock, Octane Burn, Venom Cobra, Forza GT, Chronic Paranoia, and Paranoia would all make sense in some fashion to me. Just depends on the motion you're going for.

For what it's worth the Hy-Road and Hy-Road Pearl are balls that really match up differently for everybody in my experience. Some play true to their core numbers while others get a more benchmark-type reaction. I always have a hard time recommending a replacement for one of those if I'm not familiar with someone's game.

Thanks Coor! Always quality responses from you! Dirty Bomb core is 2.519/.053 I have the drilled pin down aggressive and thus they roll very smooth and predictable. Anyways, there are a few that interest me from your list. The Wreck-Em, Venom Cobra, Paranoia, Kinetic Emerald, Heat, and Rebel. I'll research them more.

What do you think about the GB2 Phenom Pearl in that spot?

Probably too strong and/or close to the Primal Fear even if the shapes are a bit different.

How about a hyroad pearl?

Bill,

I think he already said this:
"Let me explain why.

2. I would prefer it to be a touch stronger vs weaker. "

I would think the Hy-Wire would fit nice under a Code Black and above a Ride for house shots.

Have to factor in the Primal Fear as well though. I think they might be a touch too similar.

Fixed.

How about a hyroad!

So for that "spot filler", I've narrowed my choices down to:

Rebel
Paranoia
Venom Cobra
Wreck-Em

Any comparison thoughts among these 4?

Wreck Em and Rebel will be different imo. The other two don't compare, personally. Rebel will be earlier and smoother. The Wreck Em is flippy, but different shape overall.

Paranoia and Wreck-Em will be similar with the latter likely a touch weaker. Not a whole lot though.

Venom Cobra has an early core but is actually pretty angular down the lane. Wouldn't quite lump it in with the above two since the shape is different but still sharp.

Rebel is smooth, smooth smooth. That one probably stands out the most as a different motion compared to the other three.

If you're going for something a touch stronger than the Hy-Road as compared to a touch weaker I would probably lean towards the Paranoia. Pretty safe bet in it being a step down from the Primal Fear too since it's directly below that on Motiv's ball chart which is usually pretty accurate.

Can the Hy-Wire 62M Hybrid cover handle more oil than the R2S Pearl?

The 62M coverstock is the R2S Hybrid coverstock. At least that's what I've read and been told.

Makes me wonder what other Storm covers have been just re-named and used on Roto Grip balls.

Me too. I would love a one to one chart.

Now that I think about it I'm pretty sure the 80H MicroBite Roto Grip coverstock used on the Hyper Cell and Haywire is the NRG Solid Reactive Nano used on the Virtual Gravity Nano and !Q Tour Nano. So that would be another one.
