Virtual so strong.......initial impressions
« on: November 16, 2009, 06:01:43 PM »
I know I''m behind the times.  I had to punch one of these after seeing glowing review after glowing review.  I''ve seen 100s of these and the ball just seems to roll well for every style, whether you are fast and straight or slow and like to wheel it.

Ball:
60* x 4.5" x 35*(pin above ring, mb 2" right of thumb)
2000 grit wet/dry paper
No x-hole

Me:
Faster ball speed 20-21 in the heads or 17 at the pin decks
Rev rate in the 325 to 350 range
Pap is in the 5" range, it moves alittle with different releases

I''ve had mix success with this layout(and assy cores in general) in the past.  This layout seems to match me very well.  This house is probably the driest in town.....considerably drier(at the edges).  I don''t bowl league here, but the wife does so I''m somewhat familiar with the pattern(plus I''ve seen the tapes).  There is a huge wall to 9/10 board, then bone dry(literally 3-5 units) and then OB outside of 4/5.

My first shot I slide 24, looked 14 with a bp of 8.  I went brooklyn.....  So, I make a step left to slide 32, looking 18, bp of 8.  I run off a long string of strikes, followed by two 9 pins.  2 and 1 left, I''m sliding 34, looking 19, same bp and I''m back in the hole.

I''m curious to see how it reacts at the center I bowl league.  Lets put it this way, with my Momentum Swing, I slide 18 and play 10 to 8 at that center.  At this center, I slide 32, playing 18 to 8.  I''d say they are *slightly* different.

Now, like I said this is certainly a more wet/dry shot(on the edges).  My strongest ball, C300 Momentum Swing @ 800 wet/dry paper, was 2 boards right of the VG with an earlier read and smoother reaction.  The VG rev''d up and made a very angular move with exceptional carry.

The biggest surprise of all was the continuation...amazing.  It just never seemed to quit.  I''m so impressed with this ball.  I can''t believe the strength of the cover and the contination the core gives.  More to come after league Tues night.

yes the VG is a very strong ball even in OOB condition.... the first two games with mine, I could tell it was a strong ball and that it was reading the midlanes and the backend turn was unreal....   Mine did calm down after about 15-20 games...But the ball is still very strong even now.

for me the VG is 99% of the time first ball outa the bag, and if the ball isnt working i''ll look for a different ball to use.  But rarely is that the case.

Well, it took me a week or so to dial in the right surface.  I tried the ball at 2000 grit wet/dry paper.  It made a good move, but too late for my taste on our oily house pattern.

I went 210-256 and once I moved into the puddle my look was completely gone.  I 9 counted(and shaker 7-10) my way to 175 with the ball at 2000 grit.

This week gave me a much better look at 1000grit wet/dry paper.  I started in my usual spot, going 10 at the arrows to 8 at the breakpoint.  I started slowly with a few 9/ and shot a 209.  I finally get the angle right and shot 258 with the back 7 strikes the second game.  The I open the 3rd game with the front 9 for 16 in a row.  I make a mediocre shot that reads early and beaks.  Finish up spare/strike and  shot 279 the last game for a 746 series.

I subbed Wed night for a friend that is outta town.  Same house, but this is a scratch league with good bowlers that all start around the same area.  I had a similar look on the fresh but carried alittle better for 236, moving 2 and 1 left during the second game for 258.  The pattern really started burning up from the right after that.  I moved in and couldn''t get the VG to tip enough with the 1000 surface.  I tried a few adjustments with no luck before switching to something shiny that got the lane.  I managed to scrap out a 192 the 3rd game and shoot 247 the last game.

Good ball, I think I''ll take the surface back up to 2000 for tournaments.  It was alittle more ''off the spot'' at 2000.  I like my Momentum Swing alittle more on the fresh house pattern.  Overall, a good choice for oily patterns or those looking for more on the back part of the lane under those conditions.
