Invasion... is it worth buying?
« on: February 07, 2010, 03:38:10 PM »
Ok, so I have the Reign of Fire, Virtual Gravity, Power Charge Pearl, Xfactor Xtreme, which I can use for a heavier oil shots...

Is it worth getting the Invasion ??????   My VG is awesome but havent thrown it lately, and the ROF i have yet to throw yet, will get to monday nite.

all i have heard is for the Invasion to work, u either need a flood, or a weak drilling and then to hit it up with polish..

I have pleny of Revs, so making the ball hook isnt a issue lol....

I almost feel like i would be overlapping if i got the Invasion....

I would wait and see how the ROF treats you... then draw your conclusion...

From what I've seen, if you have a RoF and a VG, then adding an Invasion to the mix would be a lot of overlap

in relation to your question i would think it would overlap with what you have

You've seen the VG and Invasion thrown in person?  If so, I would love to hear the differences.

As a Storm fan that's thrown both at 2 different open houses, I went ahead and purchased the Reign of Fire because seriously if you already have hand the Invasion will be on par with the Reign of Fire.

As I've stated though, although the total hook is roughly the same the Invasion rolls much different than any other ball I've thrown. I don't think I've ever seen a ball that is so continuous through the pins. Either way I went with the ROF because you can't beat how much ball you get for such a cheaper price.

With the same layout and surface prep, the VG goes longer and retains a little more energy on the back, while the Invasion is earlier, stronger overall, and has very good continuation.

As to the ROF and the Invasion, the ROF in box finish is earlier and smoother than the Invasion. For most, they have about the same total hook.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks...

How's the Invasion handle longer flat patterns with carry down?  The VG goes too long in the pin up 60x40 drilling I have it at.  Not sure where my pin is in relation to my pap.

to answer the question is it worth buying   NO
my brother just got 1 and its so damn strong its ridiculous
cant really use it unless you really have a low rev rate

every type of shot we threw it on it burnt up except for the very long ones
and still by the time 1 game passed it was back in the bag

I think the Reign of Fire covers just as many boards but gets down the lane a bit further and stores energy a bit more and is a good amount cheaper

After using my brothers invasion (our spans are almost identical so I can use his stuff to get a feel for what it will do for me) I would definately not buy one for myself

It's a great piece, but for heaven's sake I wish ball drillers would stop drilling them so darned strong. It has a huge weight block with like a 3 second spin time- it isn't needed.

The golden rule of "safe" ball drilling- Strong balls get drilled medium to weak. Weak balls get drilled medium to strong.

You only deviate from that situationally (IE a bowler that must have a strong ball drilled strong to hook at all or a bowler that must have a weak ball drilled weak to get it through the fronts).

Of course, not every ball driller wants to be safe, but if it is with someone whom isn't the type of bowler who will by bowling balls like most by lunch, it is best not to waste their money.

The invasion would certainly start earlier. Perhaps you should lay it out with something like a 50X70 with the same pin to pap as your VG.

From the stuff I plan on using it for it seems like a good candidate for a medium drilling.  Thanks for the feedback.

Please do.  I have one.  I love it and all don't get me wrong, but I put a strong layout on it and can only use it on true long or heavy oil.  But at the same time, that is what I wanted.

I need it for long, flat patterns with dirty back ends.  This looks good for that.  I plan on a pin under drilling but undecided on the angles and pin distance at this point.  I will need to get the ball first.

Hmm.. the ROF is the earlier piece for me, but I have a dual angle layout on my invasion, so that is designed for extreme length and backend. The ROF is a strong piece, but it is earlier and smoother then the invasion. The invasion is going to be my first ball out of my bag for the heavy stuff. The thing just loves to cranked on. I have heard that pin down layouts on the invasion are the main cause of people hating the ball as they can't use it anywhere. I used mine last night through 2 games before I had to put it up. I figure I could adjust the surface if I need it to be any stronger. The way I have mine drilled, they compliment each other well, as I moved 3-4 boards outside on a broken down shot to get the rof to finish. On a fresh shot the difference is even more dramatic for me as the ROF just wouldn't turn over unless I really cranked on it and let off the speed (thats from the line I was using the invasion). This was at a house with old wood lanes, and a fresh heavy ths shot!

Hmm..Lets see what I have in this bag..A Reign of Fire, an Invasion, a Nasty Spider, and a green Avalanche.. how can I lose....
