Title: Invasion vs Virtual Gravity
Post by: aabraham1209 on May 18, 2010, 02:00:03 PM
I have the Virtual Gravity now and was thinking about getting the Invasion before I go to Nationals. What are you seeing in reaction differences in these two balls.

All things being equal, the Invasion will hook more and will hook earlier. The VG will go a bit longer and flip harder on the back. Overall hook once again all things being equal, the invasion is about an arrow stronger.

I had the same findings with similar layouts.

I found that, since I have very low revs, my Invasion was a dead fish.  I realize it is me and not the ball.  I had it baked and the surface at 1,000, too.  Nothing.

Virg...might try some polish, or take it to 4000...

Drill up a rof hits like a mack truck also it rolls more consistant than the invasion. You won't be dissappointed.

Thanks Yanker. It was at OOB but the local pro shop owner recommended the 1,000 to give me more surface.  It was working great at OOB, but that was on a THS.  Tried it last night on Cheetah and again, dead fish.  May have to take it back!!

Do you have anything else you can use on that pattern besides a VG?

99% of the time, something super duper strong is not a good choice for the Cheetah pattern.  The Invasion is meant for a long, heavy oil pattern, and it needs that oil to help it get down the lane and retain energy.  It's not meant to cover a ton of boards so much as it is meant to provide a strong, rolly reaction on those longer, slicker patterns.  When you see friction, put it back in the bag.  Period.

Very wet green scotch brite pad by hand, then Storm's step 2 by hand for your VG...

Thanks for the advice Dan.  I could not get the ball to move at all at Nationals.  Was it lack of rotations on my part, or do you have some other idea?

Might not make sense to you, but we'll give it a shot

The VG for me grabs the lane pretty quick..with that in mind, it takes a high volume of oil to push it down the lane enough to still allow it to hook on the backend. Most of the time there just isnt enough oil, so I straighten up my line and increase my speed...this works really well as I can almost throw it as hard as I want and the ball still hooks everytime---and it hits like a truck!

PS
Mine has a light polish on top of the factory finish

I read your profile and it says you throw the ball hard? I only have 270 revs per CATS and found at Reno the ball was burning up when I took it to 500-2000. Had the Hammer guys take it too 4000 abralon and it worked fine for me on fresh in singles. Playing 7-8-9 area shot my first 600 at nationals.

Yep.  16lb ball. 6'5" tall with long arms.  Physics says the ball goes fast naturally.  Should have left it OOB then.  Actually, my Hot Sauce with Beans Secret Sauce worked better, but I was bound and determined to make that da** Invasion work.  Never did and I have the scores to prove it!  29 counts of 7 or less and awkward spare attempts led to crappy scores.

My ball went super duper straight on the fresh in the first game of team event this year at Nationals even after slowing my ball speed to about 15mph at the pindeck.  I ended up throwing my sanded Gravity Shift (5x5 kind of drill, pin up) for every game, even in singles and doubles on the burn.  Once the shot started to break down, I had to move deep and was at 18 at the arrows by the end of doubles.  Slower ball speed and something that got through the front part of the lane once the oil started to go were the keys for me.
