Better ball for opening up the lane
« on: March 26, 2013, 07:04:59 AM »
Hello all!  In your opinion, which is the better ball for stepping left and opening up the lane after a few games on medium-medium/heavy oil?  The Wrecker, IQ Tour Pearl or Marvel Pearl?  Looking for a ball to ball down with when the stronger pieces like the Marvel, Victory Road Solid and Virtual Energy are too much.

For me its the crossroad..the peices you mentioned dont really wanna go left and be swung...although I think you can make it happen...

From my experience and from what ive heard the centripedal cores like to be thrown more straight. ..and I have the wrecker..the wrecker loves to be played in the opened up track area...it responds to friction well with out making any jumpy moves.  But my pick is definitely the crossroad...I play all over with that bad boy!
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

+1 for the Crossroad.  That ball is special.

I don't know why but I love the marvel series cores. I don't have the IQ tour or pearl so i'm interested in how those react with the different numbers.  I've seen quite a few people use them and they look like beasts, so I'll eventually try one or possibly both.  I love my marvel and modern marvel, but usually I can't get left of 3rd arrow with the marvel as it burns up too much.  I can usually swing it pretty good with the modern if there is enough oil up front.  That ball and the Virtual Energy are cash making machines when they are looking good haha.  Maybe that's why I mentioned both the iq tour pearl and the marvel pearl, just really like the motion that core makes.  Just looking for something cleaner with some angle when a tourney gets into games 6-8.  I've yet to see anyone throw the Wrecker except a two hander that sawed on it, but heard good things about how skid/flippy it was for a hybrid.

My vote is for the HyRoad. A great ball all around and if you have some hand you will be able to easily open up the lane. I have had mine for six years and it is still going strong. No surprises with this ball. One of the top Storm balls ever!

I don't feel the ball you choose is as important as the drilling you put on the ball, generally you want to drill something that get down the lane pretty well and stores a lot of energy on the back end.

I agree with rico on layout importance. However my wrecker is great for getting in and swinging it. Although i am a two handed bowler, i saw a girl who threw this ball well. She was able to use this ball and have more room. If you buy the wrecker dont underestimate it. Unfortunetly i did and drilledit a bit too strong for what i wanted. But im probably getting a disturbed saturday and im going with a weaker drillimg and high polish. I'll post a review afterwards.

Victory Road Pearl in my opinion was the best get in and let it fly ball that Storm had on the market.  The 2nd choice was the Frantic.

The Marvel Pearl is the best option of those that you've named. It will be the least squirty and roll more consistently than the Wrecker and Tour Pearl. Those 2 will be for when you carve the inside up and need something to get downlane. That's not to say theycan't be used but the Marvel Pearl is the best option, plus you already own a Marvel Solid.

My other option would be the Crossroad which is going to be a bit more angular than the Marvel Pearl and stronger than both the Tour Pearl and Wrecker. Just so that as you need to move in, the ball will not be squirty in oil on misses in and recover on wide shots.

The Marvel Pearl is indeed good for opening up the lane on patterns that have some volume still in the fronts.  I have one and I also have a Cross Road drilled similar but I haven't thrown the Cross Road a full game yet.

On a mass bias ball I find the mass bias position can allow/force me to play either very straight(near the thumb) or very inside (mass bias strong like 1 1/2 inch from the thumb).

I am posting a post on this over in Brunswick under Ulti Max mass bias position.
