IQ Tour Pearl Surface Changes
« on: March 17, 2013, 11:35:50 AM »
I got my IQ Pearl punched up this week and have a couple games on it. I am thinking about trying some coverstock adjustments and before I do I would like to get some input from anyone that has done some surface changes on this ball.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Tim

My buddy took his to 2000 and it looks a lot more like the IQ Tour than it does the Pearl but it is a lot smoother off the spot.

Took mine to 3000, 2000, 1500(light polish), 1000(polish). Ball rolled great at every surface, but, it never changed the amount of hook. Just made the breakpoint earlier.

So at 2000 unpolished the IQTP will hook slightly sooner and tame the breakpoint a bit?

Thanks for the responses.

Took my pearl down with a 500 grit pad that was so wore down it may have been equal to a 4000 pad before Monday night league and seen a big improvment,So big i bowled my first 300. Great ball is all i have to say.

Congrats!

Changed mine to 500, 1000, polished with old 2000 and it calmed down the breakpoint and decreased the over/under

One of the high school kids I coach was having a problem with his going sideways at the break point (he has a big hand). We hit it with 2000 lightly and it slowed it down at the spot. Now he won't put it away. :)

BigMike, thanks for the reply. I have had the same experience with the ball jumping off the breakpoint. I am going to do the same with mine.

1000 and light polish and I shoot these games in order.... 258, (279,259, 227, 765). The last three were a set and the first one was the back end of another set. If you tame the backend, IMO, the ball rolls tremendously better, and thats saying a lot.

Took mine from OOB to 4000 no polish and smoothed out the violent hook it has in the OOB finish.

Paired up with the hinge style form and ball surface I've been on fire the last 5 weeks. 691, 600 (no pin carry but everyone else had the same issue), 696, 667, and last night 732 with a 298 to start out the night.

IQTP is a great ball and takes surface changes nicely.

When I got mine I had the shop take the OOB to a fresh 1000 and hit it with a pretty good shine.  This made it REALLY hard off the spot and REALLY go sideways.  I noticed a lot of people mentioning about hitting their IQTP with a 4000 so I tried it and this ball is much more controllable.  I took mine down to a used 2000 and then hit it for about 10 seconds on all sides on the spinner with a fresh 4000.
