Title: IQ Tour vs Hyroad
Post by: Helluvahobbybowler on February 03, 2017, 09:18:13 AM
I just recently migrated to Storm equipment.  I currently have the Snap Lock (pin above ring finger) and I'm looking for something a little tamer that will compliment it when the Snap Lock is too strong or giving me over/under.  I've almost decided on the IQ Tour or the original Hyroad.  Any thoughts?  I'm really looking for something I can straighten the shot out a little when I can't swing the Snap Lock.

Two legendary pieces of theirs that I doubt you would hate no matter which you choose. Depending on the oil, the Hy-road might want to move a little early if you get too straight but not a 90 degree turn so you could adjust for it. Again depending on the oil and the hand you put in it, you could consider the Match Solid as well to straighten up with.

How do you like your Snap Lock?

I like the Snap Lock.  It is conditional though.  I still have it at the factory finish.  Sometimes it gives me over/under but when it's the right ball it hits like a truck.  It's not a hockey stick reaction.  It does read the mid lane well for a shiny piece.

I have all 3 balls.  The Snap Lock is fantastic.  The IQ Tour 30 and the Hy-Road hybrid are drilled to snap on the back end.  If you are against a solid for a straighter, smoother shot, then I would go with the Hy-Road and drill it pin down.  All the pearls will be a little snappier.

For most bowlers that I've seen, the IQ Tour Solid will be earlier and smoother overall. The Hyroad tends to be a bit cleaner up front and a little more on the back. Again though, that will depend on bowler, layout, and coverstock prep. As was already said, they're both great balls, and you can probably find success with either one.

IQ Tour with surface will be able to blend out over/under much better than a HyRoad.  However, without over/under, the HyRoad is a more logical stepdown in my opinion.  Depends on which characteristic is more desirable...

I love both the IQ Tour and the Hyroad. The IQ reacts better on oilier lanes and the Hyroad less. IQ is smoother in the back and the Hyroad is more angular. If the Snap lock is too snappy because the backend is clean then use the IQ to smooth out the reaction. If the Snap lock is over hooking because the lanes are broken down or drying up the use the Hyroad. The IQ needs more head oil than the Hyroad or it will burn up in the heads leaving weak corners.
