Ball Advice Needed
« on: July 20, 2013, 06:48:58 PM »
Hi all, I'm looking for a ball to go between my Tropical Heat Hybrid Purple Black and my Defiant Soul. Would prefer Storm but open to any suggestions on other balls and mostly looking for a solid. Thanks for any help.

+1.  I like this suggestion as the Disturbed is great on medium-heavy patterns.  It's definitely a step above the Outlaw it replaced.  Plus you get a solid cover and Middle Roll core that is versatile.

The Hy-Road is one of the benchmark balls that is proven from Storm.  4 years, still in the lineup.  It does a great job with it's combo of length and backend.  It doesn't go too long and it's not too angular.  It's just right,  providing that controlled look that a benchmark ball should do.

Either will work! You can take polish off the hyroad or polish the disturbed if need be.  But the hyroad & crossroad have been my inbetween ball in my bag for a long time now..I really like my crossroad with a ton of games on it...the polish is kinda worn off..very contollable, very readable
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

I have been looking at the Disturbed for a while now so that's a ball id be interested in. I also have a friend with a DV8 Too Reckless I've been thinking about buying off him, any input on that ball?

The Too Reckless for a solid actually reacts like a pearl.  That ball is very long and very angular in the back for a medium condition ball.  It will just depend if that is the type of reaction you like for your game.

Yeah im looking for something to go longer than my Defiant Soul and more back end than my Tropical Heat Hybrid. I have a Green/Black Avalanche for dryer conditions that I love so just need a ball between my Tropical Heat and Soul.

Either option with the Disturbed or the Hy-Road would work out well.  The Disturbed will read earlier, but will still have some extra length than the Defiant Soul.  The Hy-Road will go even longer and is a bit more angular.  However, it is very controllable and gives a nice option above the Tropical Heat.

One other option that I just thought of is if you like pearl covers and the length/backend they give, you could always try the Roto Grip Deranged.  Same core as the Disturbed but uses a pearl cover instead.  That would fit in between the Disturbed and Hy-Road.

Thanks for the advice. The Black/Green Avalanche is actually my go to ball 2nd and 3rd game in leauge, I just love the shape and predictability of it. Maybe I should go with another pearl? Was just thinking since I have a pearl and two hybrids I should add a solid to fill the hole in my bag between the hybrids?

Look into a Wrecker.  Ball is quite angular on the backend and cleaner through the front than the Soul.

The Misfit will fit below the Disturbed without any problems.  From what I know about it,  it should be more similar to the Tropical Heat Hybrid you have, and similar to other balls such as the Columbia Freeze.  Big difference is that it will be more angular.  Typically the DV8 line has had the Misfit as their entry level balls, and then slotted their Marauder/Diva line above it as their mids.

Here is a video review of the Blue/Orange Misfit:

What you can do potentially is drill it stronger and/or change the surface to be a more of a true step down from the Disturbed.

Another option since the Tropical Heat Hybrid balls were not too far off from the Hy-Road, is to potentially plug/redrill that with a stronger layout and then slot the Misfit below it.  In either case, that's where working with your pro shop will be the best source of advice.

Yeah I had more of a nutral drilling done on the Tropical Heat since it is at 4000 that way I could make cover adjustments if I needed a stronger reaction or polish it to go longer. I have a spinner and do my own surface changes, so I mess with every ball me or the wife have. I'll definately be drilling the Misfit to be stronger. My wife has a green Misfit and a Diva so im familier with the covers on them and what kind of reaction I can expect from making changes to them. Thanks for the advice!
