Anyone remember Storms "other" urethane ball, the Thunderflash?

Came across one of these at a garage sale for $.50, so I picked it up. How would it compare to the new Natural?

Didn't the TF have a low amount of resin in the cover?

No one ever said the TF was weak. I said that above, it was too strong. BUT, in reality it is a medium oil ball at best. The X-it was a true heavy oil ball. It was solid hevay load particle ball, for heaven's sake!! That's a huge difference. As I said, they are not comparable, not by a RATIONAL long shot!

I must have misunderstood your earlier post.  You made it sound like the TF would not be as strong as ANY resin ball with a similar core simply because it was NOT resin.

That's what I was disagreeing with.  I cannot speak to the X-it specifically because I never threw one.

UPDATE

O.K., so I got the ThunderFlash drilled tonight and used it for three games, but the shop guy didn't have sandpaper, so we just put 1000 abralon on it. Not the same as a dull sandpaper finish, but somewhere to start.

First game with fresh backends, the ball was MONEY. Played a small belly out to the dry area, transition was smooth, and backends hard enough to carry really well for a 253 game

Second game was not so good. Ball was still early enough to want a bit of swing, but the backends would not allow it to carry like that, so it was tenpin city. Missed a couple of them and ended up with a lousy 158 game.

Third game the lanes had carried down enough to allow me to move totally out into the dry and play down&in. Carry was better again, but not like on the fresh. Still managed to shoot a 223.

If I had been sharper on my adjustments, I could have shot much better the second game, just wasn't familiar enough with the ball to know where to go when things began to change.

Going to play with the surface, both duller and polished, and see what happens with it.

For me, it was always too early and hit weak when dull.  I liked a little shine on it.

You may be onto something. The 1000 abralon "self polished" pretty quickly and the ball carried better when allowed out into the drier area.  May try the polish first and play up the outsides.

UPDATE

It appears Ishmael was onto something with a smoother surface. Finally got a true dull finish (green scotchbrite) on the ThunderFlash. Ball was WAY too early and had to be played inside where everyone else was with resin, then had to apply much revs to carry because it was burning so much energy so quickly.

Ball was better, and more consistent, with a smoother finish played closer to the dry. Probably going to go back with a good 500 abralon finish+polish and use it on wet/dry to blend out the shot.

As a side note.  Guy here has a Natural drilled strong for him with the factory surface on it. His Natural flared more than my ThunderFlash, despite having a lower differential, and seemed to hit better and carry better.
Strong drilling and smoother surfaces are seeming to be the way to go with these urethane balls, at least on our shot.

Hey Juggs.  I got myself a Natural a while back, and the 2000 Abralon finish was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too strong for me.  Those extra y's are necessary too.  The ball would hook early, then hook again down lane, and would never ever carry when it hit the pocket.  So I shined it up hardcore, and the ball became a good friend of mine.  When the lanes are beat up and I would rather stay in my comfort zone, this ball is all the rage.  Lets me play from say 12 to 7 on my second shift league.  It still picks up early, but the backend is much more controlled, and it seems to carry much better shined up.
