Title: Nationals - Pin down... Sure Lock or Code X?
Post by: lefty50 on May 01, 2018, 05:22:53 PM
Need to fill a hole. Sure Lock is (from what I've read and heard) a bit earlier and smoother than Code X in general. Which ball do you trust as your pin down solid pretending to be an Alpha Crux for a low-rev, down and in shot.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one.  Close your eyes and flip a coin.

Just bought an Idol off Ebay. Already gave it my vote for best RG ball ever. Love it. It will be taking the trip as my step down from this hole in the bag for sure, along with my beloved Phaze II, albeit getting a little old and a little less punch. Still my most trusted.

Code X is as close as an Alpha Crux you'll get right now.

Why does it have to be pin down?

I'm already bringing a pin up Idol and Phaze II. I've had good luck at Nats with having at least 1 pin-down solid in the bag, and I currently have none.

I'm from the syracuse and have watched a little bit and bowled in the tournament and what I have seen the Sure Lock is the only ball scoring on both patterns consistently

Thanks Bonez. I know there's a lot of (possibly deserved) hype surrounding the Code X now, but that Sure Lock's got a proven track record in my book. Sure Lock for the win, gonna punch the ticket.

I will have to add though, that between the Phaze II, Idol, my new Hyper Cell Fused, and the Sure Lock, I think I've got the best arsenal I've had for quite a few years. Now if only the bowler was better....

I went to see friends playing in the Nationals twice in April (only live 1.5 hours away). In both instances ( team and s/d), I saw a lot of Sure Locks with really dulled out surface. I'm guessing 500-1000 for grit. That equipment seemed to be performing the best.

I've heard that the backends are on FIRE for team, so that could be why everyone is using very dull stuff.

actually strong solid symmetric balls have been pretty good...i used an idol and hyroad nano  both at 2k and both were good when i did what i was supposed to.

Couldn't agree more with Sunstorm! Just got back yesterday, and it turned out the Sure Lock was hard to control. Much better response with my Marvel S (2k grit) with a big p3 followed by OG Hyroad (4k grit) on both team and d/s. The key point being "when I did what I was supposed to do."
