Title: New Arsenal, Opinions
Post by: HighRevvin on September 30, 2018, 12:59:02 PM
Hello All,

I've decided to make the switch from 16lb to 15lb. I initially made the switch years back to slow every aspect of my game down but due to comfort I'm going to step it down. Hopefully I don't miss anything about the weight dynamic.

That being said it's a rare and kinda exciting situation to retool my 3 ball mini arsenal... I'd like to pick your brains on recommendations for THS, no sport leagues in the foreseeable future.

Zoning in on Hyroad X, Hustle Ink, and not sure. The Ink hasn't been a 1st ball out of the bag THS killer for me but it has been amazing when I can use it. The Hyroad X is a bit of a guess but having had 3 IQ Tours I want something with a bit more punch. Last maybe a pearl or a urethane pitch black (have one rarely use it) or Hot Cell. Might even go out of brand for a BTU Pearl for burn... Storm give us a BTU, Supernatural reactive/urethane blend.

Specs with 16lb
PAP: 5" right x 1/2" up
Ball Speed: 15.5-15.75 (break point)
Rev Rate: 400-450 rpm
Axis Rotation: 60 degrees (ave)
Axis Tilt: 11-13 degrees

Idol, OG Hy-Road (will probably be more angular even if weaker overall than X), Hustle Ink.

Anyone have experience with both Hustle Ink and Hyroad Pearl?

The Hustle Ink feels like such a big ball on lanes with friction and holds it's own from inside angles. Having never owned a Hyroad Pearl I'm curious but why mess with what works?

They are definitely different. For me, the Ink is better when I can play closer to the track. HRP was better bumping off track burn or deeper in general.

Sporting the IQ Tour as long as I have I love the idea of an Idol but having never rolled on I'm afraid I won't have the volume with my rev rate to support it on THS... Then again all the review seem to suggest the Idol has more shape downlane to support deeper angles. The IQ Tour is tough to get back around the corner at times, even with my higher axis rotation.

Yes. In my opinion the Hy-Road Pearl is the better more versatile ball. The Ink can give angle issues when moving in due to the low diff and overall response to friction of the cover.
