What ball?
« on: June 03, 2010, 07:05:19 AM »
I am bowling on the Chameleon tonight. I am taking 6 balls and am not sure which to use. The balls are...

Invasion(4x4 2000 abralon)
Evil Siege(4x5 4000 micro pad)
Rapid Fire(5x5 2000 abralon)
Virtual Gravity(4x5 Polished)
SD-73 Pearl(6x5 Polished)
Natural(4x4 2000 abralon)(Spare Ball)

This i my usual arsenal for the PBA Experience but i heard that the PBA dramitically changed this shot.
All help will be appreciated.

My suggestion is to throw all of them and see which one works best.

If you only have to throw one ball on this pattern, I'd love to bowl in your house!

In my PBA Experience league a couple weeks ago, the Chameleon was... interesting. It started off letting me go right up the 7-8 board area, but almost immediately the heads began to dry out.  I had to either switch to something with less surface, move left, or both.  And the head oil kept going away faster and faster, and I kept having to migrate further and further inside.  Don't put yourself in jail by starting too far inside too early.  Leave yourself as much room to move in and ball down as you can.

Hopefully that helps.

What Dan said.

Also I would suggest during practice look for two different lines that will eventually use around 8 board (this varies depending on the surface) as the break point.  An outside line with your rolliest ball and something inside with a little bit of a corner.  Play the outside line as long as you can, but don't hesitate to make a big jump inside when that disappears (and it will).  Remember the break point should stay about the same, it is more about the change in angle to the break point through a set.

Good luck and let us know how you made out.

I ended up using the Virtual the first set and the Evil Siege the second set. First set i shot 647. Pretty good i thought. The Second set i shot 628. So i ended up at 1275 for the night. Not bad. I have high average in the Youth PBA. And if you put my scores on the mens league it is 2nd at 209. Thanks for the help and ideas.

I hate Chameleon. Pattern is so unpredictable.

The center I bowl my PBA Experience League at has the most beat up HPLs I've ever seen, so I have looked good up the lane to start with a Grenade and as they burn I move in with either a Boomered Dark Star or a pin down Dark Star...... Yeah...

Wow...I just bowled on Chameleon in our PBAX league and I used my 60x4x60 Blue/Silver Backlash and I had a great reaction....

Definitely.  I've had to step all the way down to a Fast and continue to shell down in order to avoid having to swing it by game three.
