Is the coverstock on the Virtual Gravity
« on: December 15, 2008, 12:48:27 AM »
4000 Ablaron?  I drilled one and the ball just skidded in the oil.  I threw the Cell pearl the first 3 games and then tried the Virtual Gravity.  The Virtual Gravity as way too strong to play the same line as the Cell pearl so I moved in and back and in and back and in even further in and never found a line to carry the pocket.  Skidded too much in the oil, too strong if I got into the dry too quickly.

I wanted it to handle some oil.  Is it me or should I hand sand the ball lightly with a 1000 Ablaron pad?

Not a slam on the ball.  I only had two games on the ball.

Thanks,

It's 4000 ab.  I've noticed the same thing.  Super straight in oil for me too, but the carry was fantastic.  I tugged a couple shots & one held pocket for a 10 pin party in the pit & the other crossed Brooklyn for another smash all in the pit.  I think guys w/a lot of revs will like it at 4000.  I would try going to 2000 1st before going down to 1000.  But I'm gonna throw the ball one more time before taking mine down, just to make sure it wasn't me being lazy w/my hand & also not cupping my wrist properly that day.

yeah its 4000..if you want it to handle more oil and start earlier I would say 1000 would be a good try... and then go from there..

10-4, Nicanor.  4000 Abralon.  Mine's a fraction too clean in the soup but it's such a great piece from the latter portion of the first game to the end of a set I'm hesitant to take the cover down with an aged 2000 pad.  I'm currently looking for a second VG to compliment my first one with a more aggresive layout/surface change.

My son throws this ball and the ball is tremendous in his hands.  I've seen others where the ball is way too strong, but they were using it on the wrong condition and eventually had it lightly polished.  I bought the ball because I am trying to handle an oil pattern at a center that oils in the morning has very little if any play and re-oils in the afternoon before league.

Thanks for the replies.

You sir have made my top 10 most respected members list.  Nice to see an honest realistic view of a ball.  Not the hits like a truck, hooks like crazy, stupid reviews.  I always said a bowling ball is like a person - beauty or in this case, performance is in the eye of the beholder or bowler.
