NIB TourPower.... is it worth it???
« on: February 17, 2011, 04:35:28 AM »
Ok, a fellow board member is selling a NIB tour power.....   for 100$ plus shipping... the specs are good, good pin/top weight.

I mean i really loved this ball when i had it..... I'm just wondering if the ball will be kinda ehhhhh on todays oil???

I know this was consider'd Storm's Benchmark ball and it produced a great midlane read and really could make the lanes seem pretty easy..........

I mean i know storm really doesnt have a ball now that compares to this one....... just looking for some input....

I bought my friend a NIB vertigo, which happened to be his favorite ball of all time...I think he had 5 800's with his original one...then the bridge cracked...

So when I saw one on here, I was slightly skeptical but you won't kno unless you try it...the good news is he loves it.  One of the centers started using a lighter oiled shot...and it works tremendously well.

Go for it...

For the price, yes it is indeed worth it.  It is the ultimate in bench mark ball reaction.  If it was 15lbs it would sell for double that price at least.   Snatch it up at $100 and be proud that you did.

Dozer....

yea i know what you mean about IF it was 15lbs lol.....   crazy part is i have been searching for a NIB one for a long time....

And as i look at it, just cuz the ball is a few years old doesnt mean it still cant work like a newer ball....   I still use my old BarbedWire which when it's carrying the 10pin , is a awesome ball..... lol

When it comes down to it, having a ball that is a good benchmark is really priceless in bowling no matter what shot you are trying to throw on. The tour power has the accu-tread cover but today it is a medium reacting cover for anything from lighter amounts of oil to a true medium type of condition therefore perfect for slightly broken down house shots or when any sport shot is starting to break down enough where your other stuff is getting jumpy.

Storm is truly missing a nice symmetrical control piece right now. Their last two balls that fit this category were the agent and special agent. Yeah you could make a hyroad fit in there somewhere but that can still be flippy though but it is what it is...lol. I have bought 3 paradigm passions 2 used and 1 nib all 15 lbs and they HOOK. The first one that I have makes a shark pattern look like a house shot...lol Then, I just recently bought a 15 lb nib x-factor vertigo on ebay and put a simple label drill on it and it is awesome on a house shot or any medium length patter like the national shot for a reference. I would rate the Vertigo just below the invasion or the theory if you drill the vertigo right. My first vertigo drilled pin down really hooks whether it is on a house shot or a sport shot. I bowled on the national's shot the last two Sunday nights and the pin down vertigo was moving pretty good with 1k against track and 2k with track.

But, bowling on a sport shot really helps you to see that you need more balls with control drills and not ones with the go long and flip type of drill even though it is nice to have at least one ball like that..lol. So getting a Tour power would not be a bad idea at all. Put a 85 x 3 3/4 x 50 dual angle control layout on it and let err fly!

If you do end up getting this ball, please make a video for all of us to see.  Maybe throw in a current Storm ball or two for comparison.  Would be fun!

I just drilled (4 x 4.5) a NIB 15# Tour Power that I picked up for $100 back in about 2002--whenever they were discontinued. I was using one at the time and knew it was special. It's been in my closet until recently. The house I bowl at uses a medium-heavy, long pattern, and the best lines for me end up being outside. The backends get really sloppy too. The TP works well for me when I need to just go down and in from way outside, or play with a slight swing out to the twig. The outside boards are drier than the inside, but I wouldn't call it a wall--I've thrown more gutters in this house than I've ever thrown elsewhere. I get a nice, predictable, early but gradual move that is the exact opposite of over-under. I'm a rev-matched stroker @ 13.5 mph and less than 5* axis tilt.

Tour Power was a very unique ball.  Low RG and low differential.  I loved mine on tough spotty conditions where it would lit me play out.  I think it would be very condition specific, but also hard to find any of the newer equipment that would react similarly

Really I thought it was going to be 130.00 to ship to you and you wouldn't make up your mind about the ball.

if it was just 130$ total, i would of never had any issues paying that.... even the for 145$ i had no issues.... but for 175$$$  I had to really think about it......

Where the heck did you get that at??? He would have shipped UPS to you. Where this is coming from is the fact you are giving wrong info on here about my friend on how much he was charging.
