Ball selection

Hi all Storm users, we need your help in ball selection. My brother is coming back to bowling after 5 years. He is a right hander with med rev and speed. His line is straight up 1st dot, a "J" style bowler. He like to build a 3 ball arsenal excluding the spare ball. All suggestions are welcome.  Thanks !

Fast - Medium
Tropical - Light

I'm going to go with the Economic suggestion that Lefty suggested. A Furious and Fast/Tropical Storm would do wonders for anyone getting back in bowling starting a a new three ball arsenal. If he wanted something in the mid to high performance range, a Hy-Road would be a good third ball to throw in there if you're not including a spare ball..A Virtual ball would not be in my range of recommendation just yet. When he decided to go into more competitive bowling, then move on up into the Master and Premier line of bowling balls.

With him wanting to play up the 1st, I would not go with the Tropical.  It is very flippy off the dry and moves more than most people think, even with a little hand. He would need something a little smoother.

1) HyRoad (pin down)
2) Fast (pin up)
3) Natural

Thanks for your recommendation but may we know the reason why all the recommended balls are from Thunder line and below ? Is it because of the line he bowl or is it because he just come back to bowling after a long layoff ? Thanks !

I agree with lefty. With the less expensive. So lets put a some what expensive 2 cents in.

Virtual Gravity ( Heavy Oil )
Hy-Road ( Medium Oil )
Fast ( for light oil )

Money better spent on one ball, a good driller and a good coach.

Any of the balls will work, but laying them out correctly is the key. For instance, the HyRoad drilled strong will cover as many boards as the Virtual Gravity.

I do not see using a Virtual Gravity drilled strong on most down and in shots unless you are speed dominant, or can adjust your hand position to keep the ball from overreacting.

Because of the line he bowls.  Storm rates both the Fast and the Furious as having medium flare potential, and the Tropical as having medium-low flair potential.  It's my experience that a down and in shot works much better with balls that flair less than 4".  Of course you could drill higher end balls to have less flair, but what's the point?

Its mainly the line he bowls.  I know you can play with drillings and covers, but not really needed.  Not to mention most amateur bowlers don't need the high end stuff especially on the THS.  Too many people over spend on equipment that they could have got the same movement out of by having a good driller and a cheaper ball.  Especially since he wants to play the extreme outside.
