Old balls for league fresh patterns
« on: March 12, 2018, 12:58:20 PM »
My friend is selling me a storm virtual gravity or dv8 hell raiser revenge, will those balls still fit at a fresh league pattern today or maybe even fresh oils of an open tournament?

You could make those work as long as they are in good condition. Might be wise to get them resurfaced so you start with some fresh covers. If theres lots of wear on the covers, idk then. Detox them then resurface. But you could definately work with them.

Absolutely!!! I regularly circulate older balls into my THS line-up. I score well with them; they are already broken in, and they are comfortable to use!

What's not to like? No guessing at all when lanes transition as well. I always have at least two oldies in my bag. If I don't get a good look in practice from one of my newer pieces, I do not force it! Go right to old reliable and use it till it's time to change again.
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

They should work no problem.  Have them de-oiled and resurfaced, and you should be good to go.  I regularly use a Storm Sync, a Hell Raiser Revenge, and a Storm 2Fast with excellent results on a THS (synthetics), all older balls.  The HRR is a favorite of mine, pin in ring with a P3 hole at 500-4000.  Hell, I even roll out my old Hammer Diesel Particle every now and then, and it still gets the job done.

No doubt older balls like those still work today. Gave my buddy a lightly used OG Virtual Gravity about 5 yrs ago and he still uses it today with it still having a nice reaction on the THS we bowl league. And work on your friend as maybe  he should just give them to you instead of sell them to you as he wouldn't get much or anything for those on Ebay. Good Luck though!!  8)

Old balls are great on house shots.  You dont need the highest friction hook monster.

There is only one old ball that still works well for me on house shots (Columbia Mad Antics).  I would need new resin even if I were bowling in a sandbox. (lol)

I'm quite certain that my Green Mamba would still wreck any house shot. I haven't put holes in it, though...

My 1992 16lb AMF Sumo is nearly as good on house shot as my Crow.  Carries a little better as well.
Kind of noob when made this account so take advice with grain of salt.

I still use the Virtual Gravity on some heavy oil sport shots.  if it is well maintained it could still be a beast

Best reacting ball I have on the House shot here is a 1996 Columbia 300 Aftershock pearl. I put the Hy Road away, Not much budget here for new stuff after 17 years off, so by all means if you have an older ball in decent shape, get it resurfaced and new grips and give it a shot, you may just be suprised
In the bag : Intel , Intel Pearl , Badger , Pathogen Solid
