Shift, Domination, and Secret Agent
« on: June 13, 2007, 06:32:52 AM »
I am in need of something to fit between my Epic Odyssey and Fired Up/Horizon.  I'm kind of leaning toward the domination, but any of the above seem feasible.  I'm not fully sold on the shift as I've seen some problems with them clearing the heads.  It seems like the Secret with some surface adjustments should be ok also.  The domination seems to be a great, and unfortunately overlooked ball.  Any opinions?

the original paradigm, is a very over looked ball, its far more predictable that the domination, i had both of them, and i like the domination, but it was very inconsistant...

I really like my domination for broken down lanes.  One house tourney I go to on wood lanes I start with my fired up, and switch to the Domination about the third game and into the second round to get the extra length.  The link on my profile shows the layouts.  My PAP is 4.75".

I have both the Domination and the Shift - both excellent balls. I agree with bhman79 about using the Domination on broken down shots. I would disagree strongly about the problem with the Shift clearing the heads. My shift is set up 5x5 with a 2 inch pin buffer, pin ended up to the right and above the ring finger and is without a doubt the cleanest ball through the fronts that I have ever thrown. As for a difference in reaction, my Domination is set up with more of a skid, flip drill with the pin ending up almost above my middle finger. It gets great length as well. Can't go wrong with either ball, but in my opinion the Shift is more versatile.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies.  Just a quick question for rob_mil13, how is your domination layed out?  You consider the Shift to be the better ball at clearing the fronts, and the domination the better ball on carrydown?  I was under the impression that carrydown was the main reason that the shift came out, that there was a void in storm's lineup when one would encounter carrydown.

I also like the Domination for broken down shots on wood.  In fact the only shot I can play with the Domination is moving deep inside and slow hooking it.

My Domination came with a CG that was almost 2 inches out of line to the left and was laid out with the pin over middle finger about 6 inches from PAP with the MB in strong position just to the right and below thumb. This left it with some negative weight that was removed with a small balance hole. I use mine a lot like CPA, when I need to get deep and slow hook it. It was marketed as a skid/flip ball, but mine isn't too aggressive off the spot, makes a nice hard arc when it reads friction. I find that I can use my Shift on a wider variety of shots - had good success with it at Nationals in both team and singles and doubles, was able to use it for 8 of the 9 games, and probably should have used it all 9.

Thanks for the replies.  I'll definately consider the shift to a greater degree based upon the replies here.  I have yet to throw the fired up that I just got. I'm kind of assuming that it will be fairly similar to the horizon which is sort of my fresh medium oil ball.  If it winds up being stronger than the horizon, then I wouldn't have a need for something as angular and strong as the domination seems to be, and thus I'd go with the shift as seemingly the more versitile piece.  I also don't have a pearl particle in my current arsenal so that is another plus for the shift.  Once again, thanks.

That crossed my mind too.  If it was just a hybrid reactor cover, it probably wouldn't be strong enough to warrant a full step above the fired up, but being that it is reactor 2, it should be strong enough.  I'll have to see.
