Paradigm opinions
« on: October 23, 2005, 08:59:19 AM »
I just got mine drilled up 5"pin 3"rad with the pin buffer of 3" (decided to try storms new drilling instructions) looking to keep the backend controlable on many different shots.  Haven't got to throw it yet.
I was wondering what everyone elses opinions of this ball are and what are your drillings were and what shots you were on.

I got mine drilled up on 10/21/05. 3-3.5 in. Pin above bridge w/RAD+ 3 in from thumb. Practiced on Saturday on Synthetic lanes w/basic house shot, was able tothru one good gaame (256) b4 putting it away. I was already standing 40 on a fresh shot. I have alot of hand and good speed. This ball has a strong mid lane and the backend doesn't quit until the oil is gone. This ball needs heads or PUT IT AWAY!!!!!!!!

Sshhhhhh........ This is the calm b4 the STORM!!!!!!!

Just an update: threw it tonight on my 41ft house pattern and a 43ft sport pattern
On the house pattern I usually play 20 at the arrows out to 8 and most of my stuff is really snappy except my depth and tour which i play a more even line.  With the paradigm i can play that line but to give myself more room for error i tried to move in which i don't normally do.
I played my normal line and could move into 26 and throw it out to 6 and it would rev up hard at around 37ft and make a hard arc to the pocket very predictable and smooth- hard hitting and light hits on a bad release still carried very well.
The sport pattern was a evenly blended crown that i could play two good lines with.  One being a little bit flatter of a release from about 14 out to 10 and the ball just revved up like it was on the outside of a walled up shot and just turned the corner like no other ball i have owned.  The other line was from 22 to 12 and at first i didn't think this would carry as well but after the first few frames i started to relax and trust it and freed up my armswing and let it go, worked out very well

This ball isn't the largest hooking ball in the world but i found it to be very versatile so far- it is just so reliable in the midlane and the pin action is excellent.

well I got mine today now I have to decide how to drill it? what do you guys think would be the best drilling for this ball? my ball speed is between 15 and 16 I am not a cranker or a full roller I am not sure what I am considered!lol! But I want this ball to hook on synthetic lanes that are starting to break down. I currently use my vertigo for the first game or when there is a lot of heavy oil or my hybrid when its not as heavy. I also have a fired up that i use on light oil.

Just a note:

I'm sort of surprised by all the hoopla surrounding the Paradigm as the next best thing since sliced bread. I was looking at the Storm website which has these very good ball path pictures for Tweener, Stroker & Cranker for each ball and with comparisons to other balls in the Storm line-up.

As pictures go, I know it can be hard to discern some differences but this idea is pretty good. The point is the Pradigm's pictures show a very small difference between it and another similar and VERY GOOD ball, the Ace.

Basically, Storm says there is not a huge difference between these two balls. So is all this talk just that - just so much talk???

You realize (and charlest I know you know)that those pictures are totally useless- you just need the raw data and an understanding of what the coverstock should do to compare the two balls- Nobody can definitely tell what ball to choose by pictures that are very generalized and leave out many variables.
Sorry about the snippy remarks but I get to many people trying to choose balls off of pictures and hook ratings when they forget about there speed rotation revs and other things

True enough, as far as it goes. But all comparisons, at least mine, are, for the compared balls, one drilling, one oil pattern (at a time) and one bowler. I must assume that Storm did not go to all that trouble for nothing. I must also assume that the different bowlers had an identical drilling and the ball path was averaged over several occasions.
Plus, how really different is one ball from the next, new coverstock, not withstanding. From Storm we've had Accu-Tread, Typhoon, Monsoon, Reactor, now Paradigm. There are differences but how significant are they really?
(That is an honest question.)

my opinion to much ball unless your lanes are fresh and long patterns.  Otherwise find something else.  This ball jumps the moment it touches the dry.  And whatever you do make sure you dont pull the ball or it will make your shot look that much worse.

not saying its a totally bad ball but this ball makes you look good one minute and can make you look horrible the next.  very not forgiving

I need something that will carry more corner pins! I had to shoot 14 single backrow pins last week. made everyone of them and got a 698 but would have been a lot better if I would have had a little better carry.

(That is an honest question.)

Well as I understand it from a few seminars i have been to and by throwing equipment with most of these covers except the reactor- the eox cover on the paradigm is very clean through the heads but it has the strong midlane of the accu-tread and i believe the core creates the sharper backend.  Monsoon is very skid-flip and does not pick up to much in oil.  The typhoon cover is a little less aggressive than the monsoon cover.  But i would have to say that the eox cover is the most predictable even though i dont think it is as aggressive as the accu-tread.
As far as the stroker, tweener, and cranker ball paths- i am pretty sure they are removing them for the next ball cataloge.  I don't know if the did testing but you can derive those ball paths by knowing the covers-and core characteristics- which your pro shop professional should be able to figure out generally how it should react for an individual

Charlest,

I like the question. I have a fired up, which I am slowly starting to like. This ball works well for med-oily for me. What makes the reactor cover any different than the others? It looks to me as if the paradigm is just a stronger version, however, this can be achieved using the ACE I would suppose.
