New house Shot
« on: March 25, 2006, 04:46:20 AM »
I'll be ranting on this for awhile but I'd like some opinions on this. Do you think it's fair that a house changes a shot so drastically that you are forced to buy new equipment? I bowl 3 nights a week (4leagues two houses) Wednesday I avg 212 & 208(one house), Thursday (second house) for 4 months I was at 215. It is now at 198. Nothing works. Once in a while I may break 600 but not much lately. The house sets up the oil to go all the way to the pins. Friday (same house as Thursday) for most of the league I've been 218-225. It is now down to 208. I was kidding with a few guys last night that maybe the guy at the pro shop needed some business so they changed the shot so people would buy new balls. I was amazed at the response because they all seemed to agree with me.
Now I'm not looking for an easy shot and don't expect to shoot 650+ every night but when it comes to my equipment I feel I have everything I need. I have four balls. One for dry, two for medium and one for heavy. I can take these anywhere else and probably shoot 650+. It's just now I'm in limbo with this house. I can either continue to bowl bad because I don't have the right ball or buy another ball. To me it's just not fair that I'm being forced to buy another ball.

I find it hard to believe this house is running the pattern all the way to the pins as the number of trouble calls would be excessive.

In terms of fair, there are just too many variables to maintain the "same" shot from week to week.

Sometimes, matching up is an issue for all of us.  If it is important for you to match up then a new ball might be the only answer.

before I bought a new ball, I would give surface adjustment a shot.  But a pack of green scotch brite pads and put some surface on one of them.  If you are getting no reaction (or inconsistant reaction), then this is the way to go.

My leagues have a different shot every week. I've never bowled in a league where I could expect to play the same line week after week.

For everyone's info, I've been bowling for a long time. I do know how to adjust or else I wouldn't have the book that I do. As far as having different shots this is what I want and why I bowl 2 different houses. So I get three different shot every week. My whole rant is why the house is forcing us to buy a new ball. My balls were working just fine the first four months of this league. Also it's not just me. Most of the avgs are down. There are guys who don't mind buying a new ball every few weeks, so consequently they continue to have success. Me, I find it unnecessary especially since my balls work everywhere else.
