IQ TOUR still best ball out there
« on: April 05, 2016, 03:58:08 PM »
Been leaving nothing but 10 pins with my new stuff. (Fight and Lock)  Figured I had nothing to lose and switched back to my old reliable IQ Tour. Still amazed at how good this ball rolls. Makes me think I should just start using this ball all the time and sell my Lock and Fight. Sometimes I get caught up in the newest ball craze we all go though. Might go back in time and just stick with my older stuff. I also have a IQ Tour Nano and a Hyroad Pearl. Possibly pick up a Hyroad and I think I will be covered. Frustrating when you have new stuff collecting dust when your old stuff works just as good,if not better. Once I put the IQ Tour in my hands I had so much more room then with the Lock or Fight. Ball is simply amazing.  I hope they never stop making it.

Don't get stuck on new vs old. I have to remind my grandpa all the time, there are so many variables in bowling that new doesn't always equal better

On conditions with enough friction, up until the beginning of last year, I had an original Forest Green Quantum and a Midnight Blue Quantum. Both balls came out January 1994...making them 21 years old when I finally retired them last year. I used the Midnight Blue in a tournament in 2014 exclusively on a short light pattern and shot 300 the final game of the tourney to win by 12 sticks. If I would have tried to force something newer, the cover probably would have been too aggressive and I would have never sniffed the victory.

As the previous poster said, new does not mean better. Old stuff still has a place on the correct condition (just like urethane does).

Good luck to you!

The IQ Tour solid is a very good all around ball. My last Senior Regional cash happened using the IQTS.

BUT, it's not the ultimate answer to all conditions (even THS) and I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the best ball among the 30 I can use. Stay open in your thinking and use the best ball that matches up to the condition at hand. Falling in love with one ball can be limiting.

Agreed. It's all about matching up to the conditions at hand. For me the IQ Tour Solid was fantastic when the lanes were tough, but it was terrible for me on our house shot, so I rarely used it there.

The moral is simply not to make sweeping judgments. Not all new balls are better than old balls, and not all old balls are better than new. See what the ball is doing on the conditions you're bowling on, and make your decisions off of that; don't make up your mind what should be used before the first ball has been thrown.
