With the USBC approval of the Phaze 4, I was curious what your thoughts are on the potential cover they'll use for this ball. P2 was obviously the TX16 solid, the P3 was the R3S Hybrid. The overseas Phaze Star is the R2S Pearl. The original Phaze was the AX16 Pearl. We've also had the Warp, Pink, Frenzy, Flow, etc with various covers.
I'm expecting a stronger pearl that hasn't been previously released with this core. Something like the NEX Pearl was my first guess, but with core numbers so similar to the Axiom Pearl that might not make sense, which could result in the potential of a Nano Pearl Cover on the Velocity core.
What do you think?
-
I think the logical guess would be the ReX formula like the Dark Code
-
I am going with R3S for the simply fact that the P3 is R3S Hybrid and the Axiom Pearl is NeX. A step down (Trend) is R2S with piston core. My thought is the Phaze 4 with R3S would bridge the gap between the R2S with the Trend and the NeX with the Axiom
-
R4S Pearl...seems too obvious though... :P
-
REX Hybrid cover. Or maybe a new Traction cover of some sort.

Yep!

NEX or REX hybrid would be my guess.

And the answer is R2S Pearl. Interesting choice.

Where are you seeing this? I read R4S Hybrid on one site but I have no idea if it's reputable.

There it is, thank you.
Seems kind of boring. I know they released an original Phaze with R2S pearl for some sort of charity a few years back. But it will be good. Fills that mid-range pearl spot between the Axiom Pearl and Hy-Road Pearl with the Trend not in the lineup anymore. The Tour Nano Pearl is kind of a different thing altogether.
Not a big fan of the colors though.

Not sure I understand the need for the Phaze 4 compared to a Hy-road Pearl, other than for bowlers that want to "collect" all of the Phaze balls and have a full arsenal of Phazes.
Same coverstock and finish, very similar dynamic specs. Is the RG difference of .1 and the Diff difference of .005 really going to create that much of a motion difference for most bowlers? Those types of differences could easily be achieved on the Hy-road Pearl via the layout used.
Just seems like a higher price for basically the same ball motion.

Kind of starting to wonder if at some point sooner than later the Hy-Road line starts to get Phazed out. ;)

I know for me, I don't get along with the HyRoad core for whatever reason. I had a HyRoad Pearl and hated it. I've got a friend who I can throw his stuff with 2 HyRoads and never got a good reaction with either of those as well.
I've thrown multiple balls with R2S or similar formulas from Storm/RG/900G and HyRoads are the only ones I've never liked. I loved the CrossRoad and liked the Victory Roads but those 3 all had the Inverted Fe3 instead of the Fe2 of the HyRoads

That's really kind of interesting, because from a core shape perspective the velocity core in the Phaze balls and the Hy-road are very, very similar. The Phaze has the creases/ripples where as the Hy-road doesn't. But otherwise, at the heart of the design, a basic bulb shape with a puck on the bottom.

I feel like the only person in the world BEGGING storm to put R2S nano hybrid from the Drive on another ball. Say… the hyroad core? The phase would also be a good contender I think, although I haven’t thrown one yet
-
It's R2S cause the original trend is bye bye... some pros gotta have that r2s look
-
I think it is interesting how the Phaze 4 is not on Storm's website and yet the Nova and Spectre have already made the main page. Is this ball a US release? I just recently punched up a Scorpion and now looking to grab something to compliment it. Phaze 3, Wolverine, Spectre, and Trend 2 are all possibilities though.
-
I currently have an Incite with Hybrid R4S and to me this a really durable(minimal lane shine) and smooth cover stock. I was really hoping that Phaze 4 would be Pearl R4S and compliment the Incite, being just as durable, but quicker down lane.
-
I'm surprised it's not US... Big miss.
-
Phaze 4 release date, awfully quiet online, 2/11/22 on their website and bowlers Mart has the pre order up

I don’t speak Japanese…but I think Shota likes it

Shota cracking me up with the "Oooooooowah" after every shot. But that ball does look very good.

Here's a video that has been released about the Phaze 4:

For anyone that throws 12 or 13lb equipment, the Phaze 4 is literally the same as the Hy-road Pearl. Same cover, same core. Save yourself $50 and get the Hy-road Pearl and it is the same thing.
14-16lb gets you the different core in the Phase 4, so for bowlers using those weights it does make a difference.
-
Anyone else notice in the difference on the pictures of the coverstock topography(where it shows the microscopic view)? It is the one used for the R3S yet it says R2S? Anyone else confused? I was hoping for R3s or Rx2...
-
It's definitely R2S
