Phaze 5 Review
« on: October 07, 2022, 06:21:17 PM »
The 3 latest Storm releases will create instant versatility in your bag and cover a variety of bases for any lane condition. The Super Nova is the strongest of the 3 designed for heavy oil conditions. The Night Road and Phaze 5 are designed for those medium conditions.
For those that enjoyed the Proton Physix the shape seen from the Super Nova will be comparable. When battling heavy oil and/or tight conditions the Super Nova will be an excellent selection to manage that environment. The Super Nova has one of the strongest covers Storm manufacturers and compliments this core very well. There is plenty of control with this high end asym and would be a cleaner option against the Gem which is earlier with more arc.
The Night Road which boasts a higher RG will be good for those early hooking surfaces early on or as a step down off the bigger balls like the Super Nova. I see this ball fitting in my bag on the early hooking surfaces so I can keep everything in front of me early on without giving away the pocket. I have found the sanded finish provides plenty of blend off the backend as opposed to the stronger angular shapes we seen from the Hy-Road Pearl. Also, do not be afraid to polish this ball to create a longer more angular shape.
The Phaze 5 like the other Phaze balls does not disappoint. a direct replacement for the 4 the 5 provides plenty of continuation down lane when making its move off the spot. This ball will go with me everywhere I bowl and be that step down ball off the bigger asym or solid sym's. When you are looking to start creeping in and opening those angles up this ball will be one of your best assets.

The Storm Phaze 5 features R2S Pearl Reactive, Velocity Core, and comes with the new Reacta Gloss finish. The Phaze 5 is the newest ball in the Phaze line and a remake of the Phaze 4.  If you were missing the polish on Storm’s balls recently, it is back with the new Reacta Gloss finish. The Phaze 5 was surprisingly clean and round/controlled shape.  The Phaze 5 shapes very similar to the Phaze 2 except it is much longer. Compared to the Phaze 4, it is a bit longer and rounder. The Phaze 4 seemed to stand up earlier and sharper off the end of the pattern. For me, the Phaze 5 allows me to move right and play straighter angles. A lot of the houses where I bowl have a ton of friction in the front part of the lane and I have had no issues getting the Phaze 5 through that friction. If you are needing a ball when there is a lot of friction, game two or three in league, or later in tournament blocks then the Phaze 5 will be a perfect fit. Another home run for the Phaze line!

Phaze V • Master Series
Core • Velocity Core
Coverstock • RS2 Pearl Reactive Finish • Reacta Gloss
Weight • 15 lbs. RG • 2.48 Differential • .051
Layout • 4 x 5 x 2
Tester PAP • 5" R, 5/8" D Tester Axis Tilt • 11° Testers Rev Rate • 325
Test Pattern • 42' THS (Typical House Shot) • Modified, Kegel Stone Street

The Master Series by Storm strikes another success with their release of the Phaze V. And in this new chapter to the Phaze line, the Storm Phaze V brings some powerful results. The Phaze V is built on the strong and reliable Velocity Core and wrapped with a blue and black version of the RS2 Pearl Reactive Coverstock. The Phaze V is a great ball. So, let's take a closer look at what's behind the Phaze V's success!

The Velocity Core is the consistent pulse in all of the Phaze line! And being a straighter player, I like how the Velocity Core rev's briskly in the mid-lane without losing its inertia when striking the pocket. Additionally, I can rely on the Velocity Core to remain consistent through the hook and roll phases, providing me with a ball motion that is dependable and stable. And lastly, I like that the Velocity Core doesn't overreact to a bad shot off my hand. With its smooth and reliable nature, the Velocity Core provides a lot of forgiveness I can depend on when my release is not at its best.

The blue and black RS2 Pearl Reactive coverstock is the ultimate compliment to the Velocity Core. The RS2 Pearl provides smooth traction in the mid-lane and has a clean yet, crisp turn off the pattern. Further, the theory is the color blue is the most consistent in motion. And the blue/black mixture in the RS2 Pearl proved that theory to be true! I liked how the RS2 Pearl cover was smooth and predictable as the lanes transitioned. It blended the breaking down conditions effortlessly and stayed consistent all night. And instead of becoming "jumpy" or erratic, it provided a reliable motion I love to see and count on at any time during competition.

With the all-new "Recta Gloss" finish found on the Phaze V, I decided to roll the Phaze V with its new box surface, and I was pleasantly surprised at its results. Of course, being a high-speed/low-rev player surface is my friend. However, with the Reacta Gloss finish, I found a great blend of traction and length in my ball motion. High-luster polished balls can go too long for me, and too much surface can cause the ball to roll out and flat ten. But I found the Reacta Gloss complimented my release and gave me an excellent balance of skid, hook, and roll all night long. And when you have balance – you bring score!

So, in conclusion, the Phase V is an excellent release by Storm. And with the winning combination of Velocity Core, RS2 Pearl Coverstock, and the all-new Reacta Gloss finish, the Phaze V will deliver results for many different styles of bowlers. And to those high-speed and low-rev players like me, the Phaze V will become the ball in your bag that you know will get the job done every time. So talk to your local pro shop operator today and see where the Phaze V fits in your arsenal. You are going to love it!

Ball Specs:
Storm Phaze V
Reacta Gloss R2Sâ„¢ Pearl Reactive
Weight Block: Velocityâ„¢ Core (Symmetrical)
Color: Arctic/Sapphire/Slate

Review:
We love the Phaze line. Coming in with the same specs seen in the Phaze 4, this ball is sure to prove more than shelf appeal. All of the bowling balls in this line have been perfectly executed with unique and important benchmark shapes. After throwing this ball we really notice it is core dominant and wants to start up rather quickly. This ball really likes to get down the lane and create some room for you to move your feet left. The Phaze V would be a great ball on the burn or in the transitional period in a block where you need something a little weaker than an RSTX2 or something along those spec lines. Overall this ball will pair perfectly with the Phaze 2 and 3 in our bags.
