Agent or Big One
« on: June 17, 2006, 10:53:27 AM »
Be gentle all, this is my first ever post on any forum.  You could say I'm losing my cherry.  LOL
So here's the reason for my post. I'd like some help in deciding my next ball.  I'm 95% set on getting a Storm Agent with the Layout #2.  However a couple of people I trust have been telling me to consider The Big One.
Now I've been reading all the posts and reviews on this site and I have heard good things about both.  The big reason I heavy on the Agent is on the chart nest to the ball has the lane with the choices.  The tweener line is exactly the way I like to throw.
Lastly here is the last part of the equation.  I'm a tweener with medium speed and medium revs.  The two houses I bowl at are now going synthatic.  House one now has the new lanes and the shot has been playing tight.  I'm told by one of the workers that with the new machine they are using is putting down a "modified factory" shot.  House two will be putting in the new lanes in July.  House two was known to have more back end with the woods and not sure if they will do the same with new synths.
For the last half year, I've been throwing a Trauma ER leant to me by a friend.  The pin is just above and between the two fingers.
Any and all help will be appreciated.  Also thanks for being gentle and to the first person to respond, will you still respect me????? lol

I'd agree - go with the Agent.  If you have any leanings towards an Ebonite ball consider Elements Ice as a more comparable ball than The Big One, but IMO the Agent hits better.

The other Storm ball you may want to consider is the Pyro.  If you feel the shot is tight a Pyro may be a good choice since a low load particle will react less violently in an over-under condition.  Just a thought...

Good Luck either way.

Thanks Green.  I'm trying to stay away particle.  I had a NS2 that was very skid/snap and it seem to lose it's bite after less than half a year of use.  It did nothing for me when I was in Reno for the Team USA tourney back in January.  Again thanks for the input.

I would think a One, not a Big One, would be a better comparison for an Agent.

Take this with a grain of salt, because I've thrown neither, personally.

As for the One series, I've noticed for the original One, it matches up either extremely well to a person's game or it doesn't match up at all. People who like that ball tend to be dominant with it. People who struggle with it REALLY struggle with it.

I forget what grit the One comes, but it's polished. The Big One comes 4000 Abralon but it feels rougher than my Lanemasters Yeah Baby, which I had adjusted to 4000 Abralon about a month back. The Big One looks too aggressive, in my opinion, for most house shots. However, I see it used fairly effectively where I live. And there seems to be less of a "love it, hate it" phenomenon with that ball than there is with the original One.

I've got a pretty good idea of what an Agent would be like, given that I've thrown about 15-20 different Storm models over the years. If it behaves like I think it will, it will be more angular than the Big One but not uncontrolable. As mentioned above, another option for you is the Storm Pyro, which as a particle pearl would give you even greater controlability.

Someone above mentioned an Elements Ice as a comparison ball for the Agent; I have an Elements Ice and I love it. But I don't think it's necessarily a comparable ball to the Agent. I would expect the Agent to flare more and to be far more angular.

I've owned both and was much happier with the reaction from the agent.  You won't be disappointed.

Thanks Shane and Jess.  I'm getting the ball through a "Have a Ball" league this summer.  I should have it in about a month.  I'll post my decision and results after I get it and get a few games with it.

You are not comparing apples to apples. The One is for a heavier concentration of oil. I have both drilled identical and in OOB surface. The big one is approx five boards stonger and more of an arcing type move. The Agent is five feet longer and more skid/snap.I bowl four nights a week on four different lane conditions. Both are excellent with the Agentt being a touch more versatile.

I agree. These two are designed for two different conditions/styles.  Do you want more midlane or more slid/flip?  That will answer your question.

Kmane, My NS2 was skid/flip and I'm not as comfortable with that.  I'm looking for more midlane so I can have a strong arc.  Thanks for the input
