Title: R3S and R4S
Post by: AlonzoHarris on January 31, 2017, 04:07:27 PM
I wonder why we are not seeing more R3S and R4S coverstock balls. They still are in love with R2S and I can't say I don't blame them. Seems like R3S and R4S just went to the side though.

They were too early.

They were too early.

They released them too early or the cover tends to roll too early?

I'm going to say R4S is going to go away. The Fight and Street Fight didn't seem to live up to the hype and it seems like the core and/or cover would be the culprit

On the other side that GI cover is sticking around, the sure has the gi17 on it.

The shells rolled too quick. Storm is so polarizing now, when they hit, it's an all time great, when they don't it makes you want to dismiss Storm altogether.

Seems like the GI coverstock formula has been pretty good so far on the Lock and Alpha Crux. I'm still kind of doubtful that the Sure Lock will be significantly different from either of those two but I would expect it to be a nice ball in it's own right.

I did that and now I kinda want to go back. I'm in equipment limbo right now. I have some EBI equipment that's impressively strong, but I can't throw them on my house shot. I'm phasing back in some of the Storm stuff I kept around. R3S and R4S are extremely grabby. If Storm ever put R4S on a core like the Marvel-S core, they would have the biggest symmetrical oil ball on the market.

Once the strongly disliked Phaze is dropped from the Master line, that will be a slim line. IQ Tour and a Phaze II. Two solids.

They can't because the competitors panty liner fanboys will say "storm uses the same covers" line.

Fireroad had the R2X and it was a "dud" for most , except on extremely dry lanes.

God, what a piece of rubbish. For every IQ Tour, there's a:
Fire Road
Reign
Reign of Power
Reign On
Reign Supreme
Phaze
Sync
Hy-Road Solid

My heavens they've released some shit stains.

I'm pretty sure they had a cover issue with the ball. Most people say it rolled like urethane and was allergic to oil. I'm talking about

Marvel and marvel pearl

The ETMs were gems too, prodigy and 2d...Drool.

Virtual gravity, virtual energy

Get outta here bowlaholic.

Them balls all have R2X and sell for $225-$350 a ball right now!

Fire Road just didn't seem like a great combination. Inverted FE3 core liked to flip while R2X is a little more rolly cover

I'd put the Fight on the dud list before the Phaze. And the Reign Spreme and Reign were well accepted from what I remember.

By the way, I can't be the only one that likes the tried and true storm with newer stuff added slowly.

Quote from2handedrook12 "And the Reign Supreme and Reign were well accepted from what I remember".
I agree about the Reign Supreme.  It got over hyped as the proposed/possible replacement for the Hyroad.  Didn't happen.  Yet, it was a decent ball.  Never owed a Reign so can't comment.

1. If a cover works, why try to fix it? The Big Mac has had secret sauce for decades. You don't see them trying to change anything!

2. If your release schedule is to throw as many balls at the consumer as you can, you're going to come up with some turds. To compare, look at how many "turds" Motiv has released vs Storm. Motiv takes their time and tries to fill spots. Utah is like LOOK AT ALL THESE! THEY ALL WORK AWESOME! OVERLAP OVERLAP OVERLAP! And don't even get me started on EBI... Each company has a heavy oil ball that hooks the most! Mako, Tyrant, Maverick, Gauntlet. Take your pick!

EBI has taken a weird approach. It's like they want every brand to be full line ups, not really encouraging mixing to complete an arsenal.

I think MCD just dropped 3 new Big Macs lol? Same secret sauce though so the point still stands! Lol

McBags. Love it!

Were the Reigns really that bad?  The original seemed pretty popular out here for a while. Still have friends that throw them...

P.S. The Fight sucked. So did the Sync and the Lock.

OMG Give me a Marvel-S with the R2S cover ... a great match in the bag with the Code Black.

Really?  Hmmmm... I had high hopes for the Lock but it didn't seem that special. I had much more success with VGs, Nanos, Marvel-S, Crux, (or even Tropical Heat)... maybe i just had the wrong layout.

The Lock is the closest shape I've seen to the VG since that ball left the market. For me, the Lock is cleaner up front with a smoother shape downlane.

I haven't thrown the Lock personally, but by watching others use it, I can't say I'm star struck. It's seemed very ehh pass on this one, but to each their own. I'm sure there are tons of people that have had great success with it.

That's the way I feel.  Mine was ok... nothing special.

In terms of solids, I hear great things about the Scandal, the Motiv Ghost and LE, Columbia Tyrant, and the No Rules. Those are the hottest solids out there right now.  I see the No Rules everywhere....
Title: Re: R3S and R4S
Post by: 2handedrook12 on February 03, 2017, 02:32:39 PM
I think the No Rules is a POS fo most people after 20 games even with maintenance from what I've seen. They start going super long and only roll well as a ball down.
Title: Re: R3S and R4S
Post by: pjr300 on February 03, 2017, 02:43:51 PM
I agree! I tried one ata demo day and hated it.  But wow some people love them..... but it's usually they hate them until 20 games are on it (which is apparently when they start to die).

Title: Re: R3S and R4S
Post by: 2handedrook12 on February 03, 2017, 05:10:12 PM
I'm sure people think I'm joking, but it really does go a lot longer than it's supposed to at that point. An amazing ball when first drilled, but just okay after that. Talked to many college bowlers and tournament players about it. At least 4 feet of length added with less traction in oil. Don't tell me there isn't enough oil for it because we see over 30 mL at times. Sometimes a ball is just overhyped.

Not buying it, if it's 20 games of Lane shine, not hitting with abralon every 3-6 games I'm not buying it. If this ball was lasting 20 games there would be MASSIVE OUTCRY, given how many people have this ball.

I bowled in college and I'll be the first to say I had no idea what I was talking about back then. A lot of college players start at 4th arrow and want to circle everything. Not the source I'd trust for claiming the No Rules dies in 20 games.

In the very wet dry house i bowl in the Reign of Fire seems quit popular at almost 8 years or so since release.

I sort of liked my Reign of Power except for it's stronger cover and my son Likes his Reign Supreme...big reaction for him!

Storm's 1500-grit polished is not consistent ball to ball.  The Fire Road's surface definitely had a thicker coat of polish on it than say the Code Black.

I had inconsistent results with the Fire Road.  I had a few big games with it and some not so great games.  It was a ball I could go direct with a lot of speed when the lanes were fried and wanted a big down lane move.

Yeah, sounds like a load of crap to me. I've seen the No Rules thrown by multiple people and I do not see that. Probably poor maintenance or people playing the wrong line. I only have the NRP, so I can't give my own personal experience though.

Not any of the cases mentiones above, but I see it has become more of a personal attack fest at this point. Could have been the first batch or something, but that is what I've seen while used properly and with good maintenance. Abralon consistently three games max with cleaner on the spinner.

I have never seen an ultra aggressive solid, FROM ANY COMPANY, that does not tame down significantly after 20 to 40 games.  Despite what people think they want, many of these balls are much more useful after they do tame down.

I'll take the Reign Supreme over the Hy-Road any day! I had two Hy-Roads and didn't like either one, but loved my Reign Supreme! I even liked the Wipe Out better than I liked my Hy-Roads. I know a lot of people loved or still love the Hy-Road, but it wasn't a ball for me. Just my $.02, Bruce
