First Storm ball
« on: January 18, 2007, 11:01:17 PM »
Had a Domination drilled for me last night.  4x4 - pin to the right of my finger holes with the mass bias right under my thumb.  Weight hole put in to increase flare.  I am a high roller with average to slightly below average revs.

Bowled after a league last night, so the conditions were not fresh - synthetic lanes, THS.  My first impression of the ball was that it cleared the heads very well and had a strong, continuous arc on the back end.  As I threw the ball more, it seemed to soften up on the backend quite a bit, but I hope that some of that was fatigue from throwing a lot of balls in rapid fire succession.

I honestly expected more backend than the ball had.  I'm coming to the conclusion that because of the way I throw the ball, I will never have a ball that is huge on the backend.  I will hopefully have a clearer picture of the ball after using it in league tonight.

Are you sure its 4x4?  I'm only asking because I've seen things like this with myself.  I have a very odd PAP (3 7/8" over 3/8" up) and before I knew this information all of my equipment did not react like it was supposed to.  I switched to a new driller who checked it, and now all my stuff has the designed reaction.  I'm not saying your PAP is necessarily that weird, but if its shifted it can still change your drilling.  Did you driller check to find your PAP before you had it drilled up?

Again, it would depend on your PAP, but for most people, a mass bias under the thumb isn't going to produce a very sharp backend reaction... but more of a smoother, continuous arc...

He did check the ball before he drilled.  I don't know enough about drilling to say with any certainty that it is 4x4, but that is what he said it was.  This was my first experience with this driller, so I don't have a history that says he knows what he is doing.

The good news is that the ball rolled very nice tonight...stronger than it was last night.  I left a few splits, so the scores weren't very good, but I was happy with the reaction.  The splits were welcome in a wierd way because the ball was reacting stronger than what I was used to.

Thank you for the responses.  When I meet up with my nationals group, I will have the guy that used to drill my stuff take a look at the layout.
