Replacing Virtual Gravity
« on: April 21, 2019, 11:51:39 AM »
I am looking to replace my Virtual Gravity for league next year. Only Storm ball that I have bought in the last 6 or 7 years is the Match-up pearl that is great on drier/beat up conditions[been throwing mostly Hammer,900 Global]. Are any of the newer, stronger balls from Storm/Roto Grip going to be even close to the old V. Gravity.Have seen a lot of Storm stuff thrown, and they all look so strong.I am 15+mph at the pins, more up the back with 300ish revs. Not afraid to change surface on ball if needed. Thanks in advance for any input.

Super Soniq is kinda close as odd as it sounds. Or you could go with the manufacturer's design intent and go Physix

as a huge virtual gravity fan; I have tried several of the recent balls to replace the VG.  The physix is only to come close so far.  from what I have seen of the Crux Prime, it might be a good choice.

I have never thrown it myself, but the ball that seemed to be th closest to my eyes was the Global 900 Dream Big

First ball I'd punch is a code X!!!
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

X2.  My brother and I have both thrown each of those balls and we have commented to each other how the SuperSoniq reminds us of the VG.

Although it’s been discontinued, the storm Lock has been as close to the VG as you can find, but with more downlane motion.  eBay still has them if you search hard enough.

Well, Hmmmmm.

As an owner of two VGs I can say it is one of the hardest and fastest Revving up balls I have ever seen or owned.

Mine revvs up so fast and hard!  Are we even buying balls like that any more?
The tendancy seems to be going away a little from so much midlane to sort of less rev, less jump more smooth rev and smoothness.

For example the Urethanes often used particularly on the left on tour.  Yet also by some of the righties too!

Another example is the strong coverstocked Super Soniq.  This is really a super ball that doesn't seem to have such an incredibly hard spin up rate like the VG.  But a great ball for sure on a house shot!

However, in this genre of rapid spin up Assyms like the VG, I have seen none more similar and awesome on Big oil than the RipD series by HAmmer on close-out now for obsene prices.  The RipD solid seems very similar if not a little stronger than the VG(newer coverstocks).

I saw Sandra Gongora of the WPBA use that monster at the Woman's US open last year where for a portion of a block she looked unstoppable on a pattern pretty squishy and slippery at the break point where she had such a free arm with this ball it looked liked a 300 was in jeapardy every game!  (knowing she couldn't overshoot the break point with this beast)!

Very similar in the Storm line to the is the available but I think expensive, is the Alpha Crux.

As to the Crux Prime, Superb ball for today's conditions.  IT seems a little less rapid spinning in its rev up, it has a big readable bow and lots of area created on house conditions due to the new style of slightly slower response to friction than the above listed Alpha Crux or the RipD Solid.  Watch and adjust for carrydown to appear and you can kill with that ball (Crux Prime)also!

Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Luckylefty

To second I have seen those Choices and man are they a high rev up core also!

Reminds me of the VG revup.  Available in a solid?

I don't find the Crux Prime to be anywhere close to the VG. I found the Lock to be pretty similar and the Choice reminds me of the Lock.

As I mentioned above, the Lock imo is as close as you’ll find. I got rid of my VG too quickly, and it was a big mistake.   Fortunately, my lock gives that same motion.

Now if they ever were to make a remake of that Shape-lock HD core??? Hmmm, one can only dream  ::) 🤔

I can't believe that core hasn't returned yet.

I still use the Lock and it's snappy compared to the Crux Prime. Misses in with the Prime held and didn't go Brooklyn. With the Prime I can release it with little effort and it gets to the pocket with ease and strikes with a high percentage. I have a VG that replaced my first one that cracked it's a second drill but I don't use it much. The first one cracked it was my bread and butter and I've purchased most of Storms high end balls trying to replace the original VG. My Crux Prime is as close to the old VG in my opinion. I was late to the VG Party but I wasn't going to be late for the Crux Prime.
