Retiring old balls in my arsenal
« on: July 17, 2019, 04:18:17 PM »
My current arsenal is the HyperCell Fused, Original Soniq, Timeless, Crux Pearl and Punch Out.  I would like to retire the Crux Pearl(bought second hand and 16lbs. I prefer 15lbs) and Punch Out.  I want to also retire the the the Timeless, I think I found the sweet spot of 3,000 grit. Need to wait until winter league to test on fresh oil.

Assuming I keep the HyperCell Fused and OG Soniq, what 2 Storm or RotoGrip balls you guys recommend to make a 4 ball arsenal?

Assuming I keep the HyperCell Fused, OG Soniq, and the Timeless(at 3,000), what 4th ball do you recommend?

I do not have specific numbers but I beleive have medium revs and speed at around 15rpm.

For now I bowl mostly on THS in league.  Bowling center is known for a lot of oil in the center and 41 feet.
Current Arsenal: Storm Super Nova, Storm Absolute, 900 Global Zen Master, Storm Summit, Storm Journey, and Storm Punch Out

If you're bowling on a THS and are keeping the Fused, Soniq and Timeless, then I'd recommend the IQ Emerald. When the lanes transition and Soniq and Timeless start to check up in the mids the IQ Emerald will get down the lane cleaner and still have a good back end reaction.

If you want to replace the Timeless also then you could look Storms new Pro-Motion (in the Timeless family) or Roto's new Idol Pro.

Talk to your Pro Shop operator, they should be able to recommend a Storm/Roto ball to complement your arsenal/style. If not, then it's time to find a new Pro Shop!

This past winter league the HyperCell Fused and the OG Soniq performed pretty well on the fresh. I’ll give a slight edge to the Soniq. It has a lower RG and it is pin down. It has a very smooth motion to the pocket.

As far the Timeless, last month I found some oil at my center one day and experimented with it at 3,000 grit. I like the motion. I liked the smoother motion. Will try it out on the fresh oil during league. I may do the same with the HyperCell Fused at 3,000 grit.

I think the lower end is where I need to make the change. The Punch Out is the first ball I ever had drilled so I have an attachment to it. It still has that good back end. However, when the fronts are drying up, it does not seem to get down the lane clean. I think that is where the IQ Emerald Pearl sneaky PETE mentioned may come to play.  This week the PBA50 South Shore Open is in town. So I got to see the IQ Emerald first hand. It did look good for the handful of bowlers using it.

IQ Emerald or Hyroad Pearl for when the Son!q Core is burning up. Might want to keep an eye on the Idol Pro also.
