Title: Second Dimension ?
Post by: zone72 on December 22, 2008, 01:10:02 AM
Today our pro shop operator got 2 case Dimension, when he check the ball, he find a ball called Second Dimension. The ball was in the original Dimension's box with the Dimension drill sheet. The color is red/green pearl. Not sure it is
Pearl reactive, Pearl Particle or a Hybird. The ball look Finish by 1500-grit Polish. Serial No.: 08TDDL096023.
Is these is the new release or a Blem?

Sorry, I don't have pics... the SD I saw was awaiting its drilling for Bowlers Journal testing... really, no pics required, just imagine a nice deep red/burgundy swirled with forest green, and add some sparkle and shine...

Well since it seems the cat is out of the bag on this one, ill share my experiences with the second dimension

First off, this ball smells GREAT...baked apple pie

Second off, this ball ROLLS GREAT...i know about as much about it as you guys do...i drilled it up like my favorite dimension and went to league...

shot 297-759 straight out of the box with it...got slow on the last ball and went through the face...ball clears the heads very well but still provides that heavy dimension roll in the midlane and back, with a little more pop at the breakpoint than the original...this ball rolls so pure, no squirt, no wiggle.  The best part i have noticed so far is the ability to get in and circle the lane without the ball losing energy once the lanes go through a transition...the pearl pushes the ball through the heads without a problem while the mica additive seems to help the ball traction in the midlane and the backend better than a pure pearl like a gravity shift...

this ball will be an awesome follow up to the dimension

This is interesting, i've been telling my buddies for a long time i'm going to get the Pearl Dimension if it ever comes out, I love my regular dimension and how it rolls but I just wish I had a little more length on most shots, my Hy-Road works alright but I figure the Second Dimension will fit the gap to a T.

Good find, thanks.

It says on the flyer that the coverstock is “R2X Pearl with E.T.M. (Enhanced Traction Mica)".  What in the world is "enhanced traction mica"?  A fancy way of saying it's a particle pearl maybe?

Either way, I'm very, very interested in this ball.  I love my Dimension, but I'd like to be able to shell down when the heads start to go a little.

IMHO it is just marketing blah. Some time ago, Storm also advertised its products having extra large PET flakes (glitter additives) that were supposed to enhance traction... Anyway, nice ball, and overdue. If someone can , please take a real pic - the Japanese poster looks pretty bluish, much like a Cell Pearl?

To the comment about how it is a "better" version of the gravity shift, how close is it in overall hook is it another one of those hook monsters? Or an actually useable ball for us slower ball speed people?

I'm thinking it probably is a particle pearl. I think it makes sense if the Shift is discontinued. Storm usually has a particle pearl in their lineup somewhere. The old Track Heat's were particle pearl and used Mica for the particles.

Here's a little definition from Wiki on mica:
Mica is often found in mineral cosmetics.

Some brands of toothpaste include powdered white mica. This acts as a mild abrasive to aid polishing of the tooth surface, and also adds a cosmetically-pleasing glittery shimmer to the paste. The shimmer from mica is also used in makeup, as it gives a translucent "glow" to the skin or helps to mask imperfections.

Mica is used in the production of pearlescent pigments.

Many metallic looking pigments are composed of a substrate of mica coated with another mineral, usually TiO2. The resultant pigment produces a reflective color depending on the thickness of the coating. These products are used to produce automobile paint, shimmery plastic containers, high quality inks used in advertsing and security applications.

So, is it for the appearance or traction? Just my $.02, Bruce
I had a RSX that looked pearlescent and I called Roger N. and he said that a few of the first RSX's had a little mica in the coverstock which gives it the pearlescence!

Perfect Dimension is an overseas solid/pearl hybrid version of the Dimension.  Storm doesn't list their upcoming releases on their website until the last minute -- once the ball gets on the USBC approved list, it still takes several weeks before they'll acknowledge it on the Storm website.

I called Storm to see about this and she said I was the first one to order one. However she did also tell me it would be at least 2-3 weeks before the PBA balls go out. Usually the staffers get them first starting with the National tour, then the regional/amatuer staffers. Then they send out the PBA offer balls.

No problem, I will just keep using my Cell Pearl in that slot for the time being.

I do hope that it is a pearl particle though. I have had some great sets with Storm pearl particles going back to the X-Factor Reloaded.

Storm likes to get their latest releases on the lanes in Japan before they release it worldwide it seems like.  (We've seen this in the past quite often)  Not sure why.
Title: Re: Second Dimension ?

...the answer was implied.  It's not a worldwide release yet technically, there isn't an English version of the ad yet.  (In fact, I e-mailed Storm to see if they were allowed to divulge any info yet and they said no because it's not a worldwide release yet)

That's actually why I e-mailed Storm.  I'm not sure if it's a pearl or if it's a particle pearl.  (I'm hoping for the latter, but either would actually make me pretty happy!)  I guess we'll find out eventually.

This ball is clean through the front and strong off the spot. The motion is different than most pearls as it doesn't flip nor arc. It picks up the midlane extremely well, faces the pocket and just drives through the pin deck. Getting the ball down the lane wasn't an issue but it doesn't squirt when it hits friction, it has a very defined shape and impact. Transition was easy to read as the oil did it's thing. I've drilled up two so far with a return of $1550. Thats enough reason for me to post my opinion. If you are a fan of Storm or have thought about a new pearl, this would be the ball.
