Dimension Vs Gravity Shift
« on: June 05, 2008, 12:42:01 AM »
Can anyone that has had the opportunity to throw both or has more understanding of the numbers tell what the differences of these two pieces will be.  I am looking for a ball that rolls a little early with a strong move off the break point, I am speed dominate with med revs.  I haven't bought a Storm ball in a while but am looking to try one again.

Here's a link to Tyler Jensen's review of the Dimension.  He's speed dominant also.  Both are R2X, however Gravity is Assym & pearl.  I have only thrown the Gravity so far.  Hope this helps until others can chime in.

His review didn't give a comparison to the gravity shift.

Yeah, I know, but that was just until someone who's thrown both could chime in.  Dimension being so new and all, it take some time b4 finding such person.  But as I mentioned, the Dimension being solid sym & the Gravity being pearl assym, 2 dif. cores, the Gravity will go longer.  The Dimension is a heavy oiler & will turn sooner.   Steve Richter, in the same link, compares the Dimension to the Cell.  So that should tell us something right there.  Again, I was just providing some info for the time being.

I threw both yesterday at a Storm/Roto Open House.  The lanes were pretty dry when I got there, so making a fair comparison is difficult.  If I remember correctly, the Gravity Shift was drilled pin down and the Dimension that I threw was drilled pin up.  I was very surprised at how quick the Gravity Shift rolled up.  Being a pearl, I expected it to get further down the lane.  I would say that the Dimension was a bit longer and smoother off the spot than the Gravity Shift.  I know it isn't a good comparison (different layouts, less than optimal lane condition), but I thought I would share.

No problem.  Can't wait for Britton's video.

Wow.  Were you throwing the same line w/both balls?  I may re-evaluate if I see similar reviews.  I was heavily leaning to the Dimension because of my speed dominance & revs.  I already have the Gravity so I may be wasting my money if it's turning sooner.

It's hard to compare equipment on beat up, dry lanes.  For example, if the lanes are going away, I often find that a pearl will want to read friction too quickly and hook early, while a solid will transition more smoothly and retain energy a little better.  I actually went back to throwing a Cell in the late games of a tournament a couple weeks ago and bowled the best I did all day.  My pearl equipment was wanting to ping 10 pins because I was having to get too deep with them to avoid over-hooking and/or rollout, and the Cell had enough continuation to kick out the corners.  I just had to keep my speed up, of course.

MP,

I was throwing the same line as well as my (limited) accuracy will allow.  My ball speed is 16.5-17 mph and rev rate is about 315 rpm, as measured by my coach.  As I mentioned, the lanes were pretty dry and I was trying to play at about 17 at the arrows to a breakpoint of 7-8.  The Gravity appeared to me to really check up early, which surprised me.  Tyler Jensen did point out that the Gravity has an RG of 2.48 which would explain why it would roll early.  Not sure of the numbers on the Dimension.

I'm guessing you want something to go longer?  Do you know if an Open House is coming to a center near you anytime soon?  If so, it is worth the time to attend.  I had the opportunity to throw both Street Rods, the Dimension, Gravity Shift, Rapid Fire Pearl and Pluto yesterday.

I may be able to give some insight on the dimension tonight.  My pro shop had 1 they were about to punch up for themselves last night.  If they got around to drilling it & getting a game or 2 in, ill let u know the verdict.

From what they said last night, the dimension is supposed to out hook the roto cell, with similar ball motion.

If this is true, it will be MUCH stronger than the gravity shift on the right conditions.
