Should i buy a Depth Charge?

Well my pro shop got very slighty used Depth Charge for sale, 16lbs in real good condition for $90 with the drilling. I have wanted one of these. My aresenal is pretty good except for a light oil ball but do you suggest this ball? is it worth it to try? I have seen lots of people throw them and a lot of people i know love them.. so what is your view of this ball? View my profile to see my current arsenal.

Im pretty sure im picking it up, I need something to replace my original X-factor as my medium oil ball. I think this fits in perfect. For my light oil ball i will be going with the roto sonic x or the storm barbed wire.

If it is drilled (pin & CG location) right for your style, you can't go wrong with this ball.

JUst saw the thing in action for the first time.

Note everything I say here with this understanding.
The lanes in our area are notoriously dry in the midlanes!

Most people use balls that are drilled label to get length.

On these conditons one hardly ever sees particle pearls.  They provide midlane and less backend.  The guy throwing is pretty good(uses only storm)and has about 5 or 6 300s in his carreer.  Nice strike ball bowler.

On our lanes dry after 30 feet it seems he just looks great with the Triple X factor.  It is tough for him not to strike.  Drilled pin down a bit for less length.  He also looks pretty good with the Super charge when heads are wetter.
(same core as depth).

With the depth charge he looked like absolute poo.  

Often this guy gets a lot of area and plays all over his breakpoint and gets lots of action.  With this ball on this already hooking midlane he had barely a board of strike area.  Ball is exactly what I thought a very archy strong midlane ball.  Not needed in our area!  It seems particle pearl makes ever core  even archier than it is in either solid or pearl reactive.

Summary.  

Triple X 11 boards of area at his breakpoint. Average about 225
Super charge 5 boards of area. Average about 210
Depth Charge 1 board.  Average for this guy about 182.

This on OUR particular condition(I have not seen this condition a lot of other places).

LL, I'm not an expert and not especially knowledgeable at this kind of thing but I think it is probably all about match-up. The right ball and the right layout for that specific bowler and then after that, the right lane conditions. I may be wrong, but I believe the DC was made to rev-up in the mid-lane. If the lanes were dry in the mid-lanes and if this ball was made to rev in the mid-lanes, then I can see why the ball didn't work for him and looked like poo. If this guy has decent revs on his balls then with the dry mid-lanes, this ball didn't match up no matter what kind of drilling he had. A person that has low revs can use this ball on a greater variety of conditions than someone with higher revs. BTM pointed this out. This ball is particle pearl. Since particle pearls don't work well on those lanes, this is even more reason the ball didn't work. I think you would see a different reaction out of this ball on lanes with oil in the mid-lane. I'm going to drill one up in about 2-3 weeks and will let you know how it works. Already have the ball, but have to wait on the new driller to get moved in.

Oh yeah, I said all that!  All about the condition.

Poo in our area, maybe gold in yours.

Caution the Supercharge is good on this shot in our area but this isn't.

This ball looks like a real nice ball for wetter midlanes with strong backends.

Then I'm sure it's the tits!

In league bowling in one house here we have wood lanes with medium oil between 10 & 10 and light oil from 10 to gutter with dry backends to start, then carry down begins early the second game. Uranium works good and the AMF Angle Evolution Extra polished to 2000-2500 works even better. The Evolution is snappier on the backend. Handles carrydown well.

In the other house the lanes are synthetic part way down and the oil there is medium-heavy between 10 & 10 with almost most dry from 10 to the gutter and dry backends, but not as dry as the first house.

I was hoping the DC will work here.....or I may sell it and get the Extreme. Haven't decided yet.

If there is midlane oil I'm sure this Depth Charge is good.

Of course in the particle pearl area I believe the Eraser Pearl Particle is the real super star in their lineup.

In our area the Triple X factor pearl is really tearin em up.  Not the Extreme, but we seem to lack midlane oil on league shots!
