Paradigm
« on: September 25, 2008, 06:52:51 AM »
Hello everyone.  I have friend who has been using his 2nd Paradigm for forever, and the ball is finally starting to crack out badly around his fingers.  I would describe his game as a slow speed cranker.  He probably has 360+ revs, almost 90 degree tilt, high track, and low speed.  I drilled both of his Paradigms with a 6 x 4 drilling.  I have drilled him many a ball to replace his Paradigm, but he always scores best and goes back to it.  He had a new dimension, that he can use on heavier volumes but in our area, it is too much ball for him.  So in the usual Ball Reviews fashion, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a replacement.  I was thinking about the gravity shift.

He has already tried and disliked ... Agent (this ball almost turned around and came back to him), Emerald Vibe (really sensitive to release and accuracy), Neptune (had some luck), Night Hawk Pearl (similar to Vibe),  Shock and Awe (nothing special), Total NV (had some good luck), among others.

I looked on the Storm website and the Paradigm uses the EOX pearl Cover.  Other than the Passion, no other ball seems to use this cover.  Has it been renamed, or was is scrapped because of all the original cracking issues.  Although I thought the cracking was rumored to have been caused by the filler.

Anyway, anybody out there with a similar game that has a ball or drilling recommendation?  Fire away.

I believe that the EOX was discontinued because of the cracking issues.  I wish it hadn't, since I really loved that cover.

Anyhow, where does he like to play?  He probably never gets too far right, but it would be helpful to know if he is comfortable in the middle.  I have a similar style, although my rev rate is probably a touch lower.  Personally, I would recommend one of the T-Roads.  If you go with the solid, make sure you play around with the cover.  It may seem like too much ball on paper, but the cover is very adjustable, and it's a super versatile ball.  Or, you could just grab the pearl and see how that works for him.

On a typical night he is playing somewhere between 17-25 at the arrows, and probably around 5-7 at the breakpoint.  Although that varies of course.  Usually I drill everything for length with him, because of his speed.  Length drillings on weak covers can cause a lot of under/over even for him.  Aggressive drills always seem to move too early, and then any miss left is gone.  I tried a Rico drilling on a Complete NV for him, and that thing looked like it was kicked left at the breakpoint.

I have had 3 paradigms with same 5,5 x 5,5 pin over bridge drilling, i´m also a high tracker and a bit rev dominant, approx 75 degree tilt. This spring i was worried that i couldn´t keep my last paradigm alive for the season so i drilled up a attitude with same drilling and gave it a good shine. Guess what i hit it right on the nail, i say try it, your friend will think you are a wizzard.

Ever consider a Fired up for him, or the upgraded Rapid fire pearl?

Im on par with his technique and playing area, and I have had a lot of success with the fired up w/ pin up 4 1/2 drill.

I had the orignal rapid fire, and he threw that.  That thing was a backend monster.  It just seems to lope down the lane, then stop and turn.  Is the rapid fire pearl smoother off the break ... I would doubt it for a pearl, or am I wrong.

I don't know much about the fired up.

A Rapid Fire Pearl might be a good idea, not too strong but a reliable ball in his situation. Even if you could find an old discontinued Spit Fire. If the lanes are really burnt out maybe even a Street Rod Solid?
